I'd also like to point out that any VA rating you have may not be for your lifetime. You can be 100% and not get it for life. The P&T designation is what is generally lifetime, and not all 100% has the P&T designation. But even the P&T can be challenged if they have evidence your condition has improved, although that is a very rare challenge. P&T means permanent and total, for those that don't know. If you're P&T there's usually a damn good reason.

I am appreciative of one’s military service, but the criteria that qualifies some of these people as disabled(especially if they continue to work) is highly suspect and overdue for reform.

I am. And yes, there’s a damn good reason. I still put in 37 years in as a civilian worker before I got to P&T, so I was a taxpayer anyway.

Don’t look into social security disability fraud if this is concerning.
I have a friend that is a SS disability lawyer meaning he helps fool the government to get people money.
Then never share a wall with an immigration Attorney.
Maddening.

The percentage of veterans fraudulently rated is so low, it’s not worth the cost or effort necessary to determine at the individual level who is or isn’t legitimate. Instead what they would do - like they’re attempting to do now with sleep apnea and tinnitus - is draft blanket changes that lower the rating of every veteran.
Veterans vote overwhelmingly conservative and do so in large part because the GOP was reliably a defender of veterans benefits. That’s changed, clearly.
How do you think this ends?

The ability to work is not a part of VA disability, I can still work but because of the burn pits my life will certainly be cut short and my quality of life has been negatively impacted.

I was 73 when I got my P&T, 55 when I got my first ratings.

I don’t understand the burn pit deal. Who decided burning a shite load of plastics was a good idea. And when did they figure out it probably wasn’t a great idea to breathe it?

Because they did it in Vietnam. It "worked" before.
But it's interesting how the fraud defender in the thread still hasn't explained why VA disability claims started skyrocketing after 2013.

The vast majority of us serve because we are sons of Veterans and have been taught early on that service is honorable. When I joined the Army, I was a junior at A&M but I lacked discipline and I refused to take out student loans so rather than waste time I joined to serve

I personally work with a lot of “vets” onsite. Majority of them never went on combat tours. Most got injured pulling wrench or had some accidents. They’re getting full $4,000 while earning $80-90k a year as civilian. Some actually bragged about it. It is what it is.
