Love Desantis as an executive but he was a surprisingly bad campaigner in 2024. If I could anoint one Republican to be POTUS in 2028 it would be him but I'm not sure he will have what it takes to get through the primary process after his poor showing last time.

He could always sell himself as being "not Trump-like" it may work for some. He would have to win it on policy though, he has a strong resume. He'd carry Florida.

Trump abandoned his own stated policies. Someone that adheres to those principles I.e. law and order, border control, deporting criminal aliens, no new wars, build industry, promote meritocracy, lower energy prices, reduce foreign aid etc will resonate still. You need a Reagan type messenger. Humble, self deprecating humor, someone that says we instead of I and speaks with courtesy.

Vance will have Iran war stench on him. Desantis can totally distance himself from that and point to all the work he did in Florida for 8 years. He took a purple state and made it dark red.

It's going to be Vance

You're getting down-voted, but you'll probably be right. Word is that Rubio isn't going to run and based on DeSantis' comments I'd be very surprised if he ran. He basically said the GOP has no chance of taking the Senate for 6-8 years, and he's right about that, so I don't see why he'd run when the Dems would have a supermajority and just block everything. I also think he sees the writing on the wall for 2028 and he'd be fine with Vance being the sacrificial lamb, given that Vance supported leftist talking points attacks on him in 2024.

Massie. Not a chance, lost his own primary

Massie lost because Ed Gallrein’s voters were Boomers who watched Fox News and Gallrein ads all day and believe Israel is some kind of supernatural Mecca. The future of the right, young voters, were more inclined to vote for Massie.

After Tuesday night, it is impossible to deny that he has been vindicated. If the GOP had listened to Tucker, MTG, and Massie in the first place, we wouldn’t be asking why the election was such a bloodbath.

It’s just DeSantis and he is well positioned. Vance and Rubio are far too trump adjacent is to win in 2028.

It will be DeSantis or a non politician that swoops excites the base.

DeSantis is going to have to find a way to make a person laugh though or he will lose. He is too much of a scold and that never plays well nationally.

I hope Vance is smart enough to sit it out as well.

My money is on Cruz and some long-serving rep in a safe district in the Midwest. Even if they don’t have a prayer of winning, they’ll do some major fundraising and pump Fox News’ numbers.

Great post and great topic. Nobody you mentioned really shakes me up, but I have no one better to offer. I would vote for almost any Republican who is not named Massie or Bush. And any other Republican would have to prove to my satisfaction that he/she is not part of the RINO/NeverTrump cuckery.

It will likely be DeSantis as he has the most daylight between him and Trump/MAGA

Vance's comments about the Ramaswamy ad will be a fricking political albatross for a while, and it's very hard to now be all against the war when early on he was the one tasked with selling it to the American people... he is unprincipled, and people see that about him... he talks out of both sides of his mouth, and he comes across as a self-preservational opportunist, period point blank...

Rubio, unless he resigns NOW, and i mean like yesterday, to create more distance between him and Trump, won't have a chance b/c while a more solid, more principled person than Vance, he's also someone who will take whatever position he feels is best suited for himself, more often than not...

i'm not sure Trump will endorse any of them, and honestly, I'm not sure, that down the line, especially with Miller now the Chief of Staff, which, outside of the MAGAverse, is going over like a lead balloon, that they'll want his endorsement or that it will be worth anything then anyway

Republicans will lose the presidency in 2028. Demorats will maintain the majority in Congress. Goodbye filibuster. Welcome to a truly one party authoritarian government. Republicans won’t have to hide being part of the uniparty. It will be all out in the open.

If this happens so be it. But lets nominate the best man for the job this time and let the chips fall where they may.

I think everyone agrees that if you go silent by accomplishments it should be Ronny D. I'm really not sure how it plays out for Vance or Rubio but I still think Rubio has appeal as the first Latin American President.

I admit I know nothing about Youngkin other than he could win Virginia. Paul will run and have no chance cause he's awkward.

If any one deserves to be the sacrificial lamb it’s Vance. I don’t care what he says about the economy or the war, he stood right by Trump and was smiling away. He’s also responsible for the Ohio Senate seat flipping. He was elected to serve a term in the Senate and he left just 18 months in. He never should’ve ran in the first place if he wasn’t committed to serving at least 1 full term.

What people deserve is rarely a factor in politics.

Vance may very well run if he considers his political career sufficiently over already. I just hope he can be compelled to fade away and give us a shot at retaking some House seats after the dems waste the next two years continuing our current Congress’ track record of doing nothing to help the American people.

If Vance runs they’re going to use those very things you mentioned to affect down ballot races. Let a milquetoast fence sitter Republican lose while we retake the House.
