My opinion of vehicle guns differs from many but use your own judgement. I dont think you should keep a gun in your vehicle overnight or for super extended periods of time. It's not hard to move the gun from car to home at the end of each day. I don't think it's worth risking having someone break into the car and having a gun. I have a gun in my truck only when I am in it. When I am done, I put it back at home.

If you don't mind, I'd like to add another question: "Where do you put your truck gun for easy access--holster, compartment, magnet, etc.?" Currently I place mine in the door compartment (easy in / out for CC), but I've been looking into the Under the Steering Wheel holsters for easier access with my right hand. Anyone have any luck with this?

I've got a magnet mounted under my dash and to the right of me steering wheel.

Para Ordnance 14.45 LDA.
Birdsong Black-T coated to prevent rust since it rides in my door and gets wet when I open the door during rain.

XDM 40. I also carry it in the door compartment, but remove it when I get out at night.

Springfield HD 40 cal that El Josey Wales gave me before he passed away. I keep telling myself to buy another one for my truck, but can't get past him riding with me.

Been trying to find a used cop glock for a couple yrs now with no luck. No one wants to sell their glocks and if they do they want way to much.

Mine's a Keltec PF9 that has been through the damn ringer. It has been stolen once and I got it back after about 8 months from Rayne PD. After that I cleaned it up and took it to the range and put 300 rounds through it with no failures and it went right back to the truck.

I usually shoot it about 20-50 rounds every other time I go to the range or so.

I live in NOLA, so don't leave a gun in my truck overnight. So generally I have my CCP with me in the truck--G27.

I've been considering one of these for the car. Seems like a good compromise between firepower and capacity. The other option would be the Glock .45 single stack (G26?). [ETA nope...G36]

The door compartment makes me a little nervous thinking about it falling out. Probably not really an issue but rather paranoia. Also I'd prefer to have it by my right hand. I was going to mount a magnet either under the dash or on the console next to my leg.
