haven't shot yet but i'm diggin my new $315 canik. Not an ideal carry gun but extremely versatile defensive gun. 15+1. Extra mags are hard to come by now though.

Bought a Glock 43 from the local police store. It was used, but never fired. Came with talon grips on it and 3 magazines (1 reg, & 2 extended). I almost didn’t stop after going to Academy and another local gun store.

I can relate. My wife is a southpaw so I built a lefty AR and outfitted it how I wanted one. It’s “hers” but will realistically be used more by me. Anything to justify a purchase!

I love my TP9SF. Stock trigger is just fantastic. Put it on a trigger pull gauge and you see 4lbs 14oz but when you feel it with it's smooth takeup when you hit the wall and you get a very nice clean creep free break with minimal overtravel it feels a lot lighter than it is. It pulls over a lbs heaver than my old P series Sigs but I swear it feels lighter.

I’ll also suggest the TP9SF. Shot my buddy’s and loved it so much I got one. Just came in today.

PrivatePublic,
I'm always happy to help a fellow OBer (or anyone else for that matter!) spend money on a new gun.
As you've seen already, you're going to get all kinds of suggestions because different people have different experiences. For you, I'd suggest first getting a gun more suitable for home defense than concealed carry. If you want to cc these guns, you can do so, but it's more difficult. Get a true cc gun later. Guns are a tool and it's hard to make one tool do the job of two. Instead of telling "the gun" that you have to get to the exclusion of anything else, I'll share my personal recs....
Size: I'd recommend a gun the size of the Glock M19 or larger. Larger guns are easier to shoot/handle than smaller guns. This size of gun is a nice compromise. A home defense gun doesn't need to be a pocket gun.
Magazine capacity: Double stack is preferred, as long as it fits your hand well.
Finish: I'm not picky. Get what you prefer, whether it's blued, stainless steel, cerakote, etc.
Sights: I've got regular sights on mine. Lights and lasers on a gun may be useful, but I've just never seen the need to learn that part of shooting.
Brand: Go w/ a reputable, major manufacturer, e.g. Ruger, Sig, Glock, Beretta, H&K, Springfield Armory, etc. Like some of the other posters, I've got a Canik 9TPSF and like it so much that it's my "truck gun". I'm comfortable w/ it's quality, but there are doubters out there.
Action: Glock type action or Double action only. There's nothing wrong w/ the DA/SA guns, they're just not my cup of tea. I once had one and found the action confusing. If one's willing to learn the manual of arms for the SA/DA gun, go for it. The same thing can be said of SAO guns like the 1911. They can be great self-defense guns as long as one trains to know how to use them. Of course, most 1911's have a single stack magazine that will limit mag capacity.
Keep us updated w/ your journey.

Any ideas on where to find one? Everywhere I’m looking says out of stock.

There’s some here but they are likely overpriced. My LGS has several in stock. Just go and talk to your LGS and develop a relationship. Might even try calling GT Distributors I’ve had a lot of success getting both a blue label 19X and 19M from them recently.

I recently saw an ad for a Beretta M92 compact for $399. Anyone have experience with this gun? Ive only seen the full size. The compact looked nice.

I only have experience with the M9 and 92FS not the compact model. They are fine weapons. If it’s to add to your collection I’m sure it’s a great gun. However if it’s your only gun or if you envision it being your daily driver I would not recommend vs something like a G43/43X or a G19.

For a first gun, get a taurus G3C or even a G2C. Best value by far. Great gun. Great mag capacity. Nice size, not too small, but could still be concealed easily or carried around without any problems.

I'm going to throw my vote in for a Canik as well...
But if the OP is going to conceal carry, I'd recommend the TP9 Elite SC. Can be purchased with or w/o a red dot. $400 without, $600 with.
I just got one with a Shield SMS2 and it's amazing! Short mag is 12rds. Extended is 15.

Where? I would like to partake in this. I have a 92FS Compact L two tone and love it.

Sig p320 X-carry or compact could possibly suit both needs. I have a p226 for at home/in the woods and a p365 for CC/in the truck. BUT if you're looking for a single handgun to function as both, then I would checkout the X-carry or compact. I didn't see anyone mention these in previous replies, so figured I'd make your decision a little harder.
