What part of Metairie do you live in?
Over the t ears I have b ad an occasional possum in my part of Metairie, but no where near the numbers you are dealing with.

Not joking, not stretching the truth a bit.
When I was a teenager, me and my cousin caught 12 possums in 1 night, in string snares. The little creek bottom behind their house was infested with possums. We were using apple slices as bait.
The good thing about string snares, It hangs the possum when he sets it off, most of the time. If it doesn't a bat works fine.
Granpa showed us to just grab them and snap their necks. I never did that though, because they always shite all over his arm when he did it. I didn't think I would like that part.

Yeah....you've never tried to kill a possum before.
This doesn't work.
They're indestructable.

I just opened this thread for the first time. Some of y'all have a weird vendetta against 'possums. They're just possums. It's not like they really bother much. And they're part of nature's cleaning crew.

Shortly after I got home from the game Saturday night, I was in the kitchen and heard a racket outside. Went out there and it was a possum in my trash... Avery Adkins and Cole Tracy would have been proud.

I gave one a dirt nap Monday night. Wife let the dog out to piss and it started hissing at my wife and dog..... no body messes with my dog so the possum had to go.

Buy one of those crack barrel pellet guns. That's more than enough fire power to dispose of an opossum.

Not far from me, and I don't have that much of a problem. I live on Vets too. My dogs get one once every two or three months. They are small though. After the dogs are done, I just whack them with an axe
Eta: I just went back and read the whole thread. It's hard to believe that he has so many possums, and I rarely see them at all. I guess they all heard about the party on the other side of Vets

I was thinking about a month ago that I really hadn't seen any possums around in a while and then two weeks ago I saw two on the fence in the yard. Well, the war rages on! That puts my total captured over 42 of those stinking critters.

I really don’t bother possums unless I find one in my chicken house, never had one kill a chicken.Guess they eat eggs. That was interesting about the ticks.
What I hate is armadillos,I have been in this house 20 years and I’ve killed 171.What’s bad is they get in my wife’s flower beds and tear them up which puts her in a foul mood.
When she gets in bad mood her fuse gets shorter than usual.

I think we're neighbors. Same garbage schedule and everything. I even have banana trees. I did see a massive raccoon a few months ago. I would rather have opossums though.

I was home alone one night.
It was a cool, late October night and I had my door open.
I was reading on the couch and I was not wearing shoes.
I smelled something odd. I looked up and there was a opossum in my kitchen.
It walked by me and it did not see me.
I would have been more confident if I had shoes on.
I clapped my hands and it hissed at me and showed his teeth.
He trotted out the house.
I closed the door.

I didn't close the back door one night before going to bed. It was open to let the cat in and out and I just forgot. Next morning I stumble into the kitchen to make coffee. I get a filter out of the pantry and start the coffee and I got a creepy feeling. I looked back in the pantry and there is a opossum looking back at me. Then I really got creeped out. I found a laundry basket and dropped it over top of him and slid the whole business out the door with him hissing and baring his teeth at me the whole time.
Then I went and yelled at the cat for letting that critter in the house.

My neighbor is out of town so I'm collecting the mail. Grabbed it and was walking to drop it in a safe spot when I stepped on a dead opossum. Nothing to tell why it died, those things are nasty. Uptown NOLA, was hoping the 'yotes that were seen near would eradicate them.

When I lived in town I had a cat problem. Started trapping them. I’d catch 5-6 possums for every cat. Caught about 1 critter every 3 nights for years. Never slowed down.
Pokey stick. That’s all you need

Just when I think I have the possum situation under control along comes another one or more. Last week I left something on the shelf of the grill overnight and the next day I noticed it was knock onto the ground. Got to thinking and thought about a critter having done it. Last night I set my trap and this morning there was a possum in it. Not a big one compared to others I've caught but still a possum.
I moved the trap and noticed this one wasn't as rambunctious as others. Later when I had time to deal with it I noticed it laying on it's side. I know it couldn't have gotten injured in the process of being captured. I turned the trap over and discover this one had tiny babies in it's pouch or whatever you call it. So instead of catching one possum I caught at least three. I could only see two hanging out of the pouch but there could have been more in there I guess.
I considered dispatching this one before seeing the little ones but decided to relocate it.
So, this is like number 46(47 and 48 too you could say)since the possum war began.
