Oil drain plug stripped on 4 wheeler

Talked to a service manager that says on my bike there is no fix, he hasn’t had success fixing my issue on my model bike.
Could I have someone just weld the fricking plug in there?
I don’t use the bike very much at all, get several more years out the bike this way imo. Any reasons this can’t work? Manager said my issue is the end all be all type issue.

Tap it out and put a heli-coil in.

Tap it out. Put larger plug. Shouldn’t be hard.

I'm only recommending a heli-coil so that you don't have the steel plug threading up to the soft aluminum of the crankcase again, causing the same problem down the road. Tapping it out and putting in a larger plug will work as well, heli-coil might be a little more durable in the long run.

depends if he has the room to do that, some are wedged into funny areas not easy to get to.
OP try retapping the threads to the next size or maybe to SAE size slightly bigger then your metric size
if you want a simple "dirty" fix, use a boat drain plug for it like this one LINK
or maybe you can just shove this one in it LINK

Remove plug, wrap in an obscene amount of Teflon tape, threaf back in to 12 ftlbs or so and see if it leaks
Only do this if a helpful is impossible.

Had this happen to my previous Atv. Hormell’s fixed it by putting a tapered tractor plug in it. Wasn’t enough room to re-tap threads.

Some good advice in this thread.
What model 4 wheeler is it?

What exactly is "stripped"? I.D. threads in the case? Post a pic if possible, I'm a machinist, anything is fixable.

Of course the dealer said it’s unfixable. He wants to sell you another bike!
But I’m sure it is fixable. Bring it to a good shade tree mechanic. They will figure it out.

You can’t replace the oil pan I guess?
Some good ideas here already though.

There's not any pressure in the pan. Drill and tap it to a larger size.

Mines had a self tapping drain plug in it for like 15 years

You sure the threads just stripped or did the threaded part of the case break off and fall down inside the case?
Pic of inside of case showing the threads broken off
If it's just stripped threads. I would try an automotive Self Threading Metal Oil Pan Drain Plug. Like this

I had an 07 foreman and I’m pretty sure I had this same issue fixed on it. Pretty sure it was Rad Cycles in Baton Rouge that fixed it.

Had a similar problem on a ‘98 Honda TRX300 4x4.
In my case, the drain plug was over tightened, creating hairline cracks radiating out from the plug.
Boco’s in Ville Platte removed everything from the crank case, cut out the section that was cracked and welded in a new section.
Did an excellent job!
It was pricey, however. Not sure how much you want to spend on this ATV to fix it right though or if this is your problem.

Most ATVs drain directly from the crankcase in my experience (no pan).

Boco can solve any problem on a Honda bike.
