Pretty Impressed with them on this.

There has been one. Like one forecasted good day since the start.

There was a Sunday a week before where it laid down and was nice.

Despite the bad forecast, we don’t know what it will look like 100% until the day comes- appreciate them getting ahead of it- for sure to work on the quota- but it gives the anglers a chance to have an epic weekend.

Last friday we saw an 18 foot express about 16 miles out with a whole family in it. It was damn smooth. They had about a 3 foot shark on the deck

5 fish a person makes it well worth going with just two people. 10 water headed snappers is a good box for a morning.

Fun idea. Unfortunately it’s going to be a blowout and too stormy for most boats this weekend.

Mean time the commercial guys will be hauling them in by the ton while our benevolent leaders give us each one extra.

Season will be closed early too because we recieved this gracious gift

Man I will give them credit, the last couple of years they kept it open pretty late into the year. 2024 was open until mid-October I believe, and 2025 mid-November and I feel like towards they end they were pretty much begging people to go out and fish. Hopefully this is a tester to maybe move it to a 5 fish limit season long, and wrap it up after Labor Day.

Last friday

The day I was speaking of :-)

I talked to a crew boat Captain and he said on opening weekend, they had 10’ seas and came back into Barataria Pass at 9 knots.

We hammered on them in Venice last weekend. Went deeper than usual trying to get away from the pressure and found some really pretty fish. My best haul in th last few years by far.

You think it will def be a washout? Saturday looks to be a maybe. I am seeing 2.3 feet at 5 seconds. Which is not ideal but doable. Friday looks to be the same. Sunday and Monday it appears to get worse. I hope it cooperates and we can go Saturday.

Btw I am seeing that on the Windfinder app and that’s the forecast for the Loop. When I checked the grand isle and ST blocks which are a little closer to shore it had slightly better conditions and when I checked the miss canyon it was a little worse.

Looks a bit….sporty. 2.5-3.5’ seas are miserable to fish in, even if your boat can take the beating getting out.

Wish we’d been able to keep 5 last Friday when we released 35-40 keepers

I've tried to tell my young nephew this, but he doesn't understand. I ain't going out in 2' + seas.

Last time I went it was 3’s mermentau river, 4’-6’ for 30 miles. We caught them but I was sore for a week.

Forecast much better towards Venice, so going to give it a go on Saturday. Plus, a bigger boat there (the best boat is a friend’s boat). I might regret it later.
