re: Can I fit a 12-13 foot pirogue in a 15 foot job boat

No if I do it it would be launching from Hopedale marina and going through Bayou La Loutre at a pretty slow speed.
Thanks everyone for input. I thought about pulling it behind too and may be my backup plan if I get one and it’s too awkward to ride with it in there. It’s not that long of a run. But ideally would want to be able to try other areas and possible longer runs and just have the option. I think I can make it work.

Is wrapping it better than painting you think? Or more cost effective?
Can I fit a 12-13 foot pirogue in a 15 foot job boat

I feel like I can but know it will be tight. I want to get more into duck hunting and my only option is public land. If so my thoughts would be places like the Biloxi marsh wma or PAC and use my 15 foot Jon boat to get into the areas and anchor it and dump the pirogue into the water to get real skinny.
Anybody do this successfully and can make me feel better about buying one? I hate to get one and immediately regret it finding out it’s just not doable.

My son was 6-7 when he caught his first redfish in Delacroix and also on smaller side. It’s still one of my favorite videos to this day. I’d do it. Worst case you help him land it if needed.

I think he is trying to figure out a way to go viral. If you can do that it often leads to short term fame which can produce a lot of views and or followers which in turn can also lead to income from views on future videos. He is an Ashoka though. In second video he goes out of his way to make delivery guy walk up the steps with it. Prick
re: Think you can hunt a small plot of land consistently?

Lots of good info and things to consider that I hadn’t thought of. Thanks to all who left a message.
It does have a food plot currently as well as a few feeders. Not sure on the thick ending areas near plot but it does look to have some thicker woods on property from pics and satellite view. I have not been to property in person yet.
I can only access it from one direction unfortunately. Myself and my son would likely be only ones hunting it.
And not sure on neighbor situation. Not sure how to go about finding that out without buying it.

Looking at a 18 acre tract. And I know it’s small but it’s surrounded on 3 sides by thousands of acres that will never be built on. And on the other side is a river. In Atchafalaya basin area. Deer cam pics show tons of deer. This would be just me and my family hunting it if I bought it, so not concerned with it being too many people trying to hunt it.
Part of me thinks it’s too small, but when I look at what’s surrounding it I feel like it def hold deer. And just would have to keep attracting them off of the surrounding land which is much bigger. Whoever has it now is already doing that based on the camera pics they have tons of deer.
And for what it’s worth there is another similar sized tract in terms of size and price located very nearby and that one is directly adjacent to public land. Which is good and bad I guess but feel like it would make my land bigger bc I could continue to hunt even after it ends. But then would have to worry about public coming into my land.
Any insight on either scenario is welcome and TIA

I am holding for sure. I just got in at a bad time. I believe in the company. I sold a property and invested all of money into stock market. Bought 20 different stocks. Meta and Netflix are my big misses so far. I am up overall but those two are my anchors since purchasing. Google has helped a lot. But I am holding both bc they both print money. I just have to wait till they come back. I believe both will. And I don’t need the money anytime soon.

Think this may cause their stock to go up? Asking bc I bought a fair share recently and it’s killing me. Currently my biggest loser. But I bought when it peaked. So only have had it a little bit. Think I’m down 10ish percent. But I’m willing g to hold long term bc I don’t see it just going away.

Thanks everyone. I am in Baton Rouge area and will be hunting within an hour or so from here since a few people mentioned location matters.
New to deer hunting and will be on public land. Best mobile stand set up to get up a tree
Posted by GravelLotinCanada on 11/16/25 at 5:21 pm
I am wanting opinions from more experienced hunters as far as best set up when considering weight and quality and ease of set up. Is there a consensus go to? Is saddle the only option? Needs to be mobile since public so want something I can take in and not as easily and quickly as possible. Would like it to be able to be part of a backpack for way in and out.
I also saw the hawk nest mobile tripod with wheels but that may be bulkier than I want and I think it only gets 9 or 10 feet up. Any info is appreciated. I am 6’2” and weigh 200 if that matters here.

I didn’t know that website was even still around. I used to read it daily every morning. This was 15-20 years ago though. It’s different now but glad to see it’s still going.

I was somewhere in my early 30’s. I don’t remember the exact year. I am mid 40’s now and I came up with 2.9 mil at this moment when I factor in everything.
The big thing for me I want to do it cross 1 million in my brokerage account. And that will happen very soon. I’m hoping by end of year. It should be before December unless there’s a major pull
Back in stocks bc I’m right on the doorstep already. But that will be a good night for me and the wife. Whenever that happens I am going to try and plan a really nice night out. I have a long way to go before I start dipping into that obviously, but it will feel good to open my brokerage page and see that second comma.

Skin still on? If so score the fat and season as desired. Start skin side down in a cold cast iron skillet. Make sure cold to start. Cook med rare as others said. Start on skin side and cook there until skin is golden brown and kind of crispy. Then flip. Sometimes finish in oven but can also do all over stovetop. Make a sauce to serve over it if you want. Maybe that’s too fancy for deer camp but it’s the best way I have ever cooked them.
Keep the duck rendered. Always a use for it later.

re: Teen boy told to join girls team over birth certificate error

I see it both ways here. I think boys should play on boys teams and girls on girls based on what sex you were assigned at birth and not what sex you decided to identify as at a later date.
But if it truly was a clerical error then it’s really tough luck for the kids family to have to pay all that money to do chromosomal testing.

Awesome thank you. I may try and do it if we get a good weather window.
I have only done it one time and it was on a charter. The charter crew was in touch with the shrimpers and we brought them cigarettes and beer and bread and they gave us several crab champagne makers full of chum. We only used that chum they gave us and we threw a ton of it. Caught two 180 pound yellowfin that day.

What are you using to throw behind shrimp boats, cut up pogies? Also how do you find the shrimp
Boats? Is there a way to know about where they are or just head out and search for them?
Sorry I don’t have an answer to your question but I would love to learn more about fishing behind them this time of year.

Anyone win gator tags ever?
Posted by GravelLotinCanada on 8/27/25 at 11:13 am
I am sure some have here. First time for me and I am wondering how process works on back end. |I have had blackened and fried gator plenty of times and like the taste of it. If I want that meat do I have to skin it myself, and same question with the hides or heads if wanted to keep anything.
Or do most people just bring and sell to buyers and not keep anything from them?
