This complaint has been around since AT LEAST the early 1980's. It hasn't changed yet. Stop wasting your effort.

you look at the estimated deer breeding season for any of our deer areas they coincide almost perfectly with to maximize your time afield for
The rut
Deer in st mary parish are primarily marsh deer and Will rut earlier than the bottomland hardwood deer along major rivers
If you start the season a month later in st mary parish you are missing out on the rut
Literally no one is deer hunting anywhere around us for the first 30 days of bow season and only a very few are hunting the first 20 days or so of gun season. Rut or not, it does no good to have the season open if no one is hunting. We are within a couple miles of the west bank of the Atchafalaya river with the same marshy/pipeline bank hunting as is being done on the east side in area 9. We still begging on deaf ears for them to switch the dates later.

Obviously a lot of yall have not tried to hunt in the marsh. This aint box blinds on a pipeline looking 500 yards in 4 directions. And yes Mr Cheramie, we have 3 sections that no one hunts until early November. What good does it do to hunt them when you can't see them? All we want is to be on the same dates as the guys hunting the same area/conditions less than 3 miles from us

Most people can't understand St Mary Parish though where the rut in marsh is 4 months different even though the deer are only separated by hwy 90. I know the reason why it is like this but not really describing that now.
To the other comments I don't think seasons are set to maximize the kill but I bet most of you get to hunt the rut. Alot of times we don't it is after rifle season.

What really needs to happen is the limit changed. No one needs to kill six deer a season.
^ This is why you don’t see them! Want the ability to kill bigger bucks and or see more deer, then advocate for reducing the limit down and manage the deer better. There is nothing wrong with the dates of the seasons as it coincides with the RUT!

How many people do you know touching that 6 deer limit? In one state? Even including kids? Those few tilt the scales less than the licensed hunters who don’t pull the trigger in this state.

I’d trade the current season and 6 tags for:
One doe tag
One buck tag
And no closed deer season
Tags expire at 30 minutes after sunset December 31. New tags issued at 30 minutes before sunrise January 1.

Don't deer hunt so I could give a shite about that. But have been duck hunting for over 40 years seriously, watching the patterns, migrations and what not. Over here in the west zone of La., and not counting the areas in SWLA, we see more ducks in the first split, than the second. And its been that way since the late 80's. I would like to see it open the last week in October and run 45 days straight, and be done with it. And I would also like for Louisiana to let parishes define their own seasons. No sense in lumping Vernon parish with those that border marshes, rice fields and the like. We are killing birds that are migrating and stopping for a rest and water. We have no agricultural land here, the only food we have is acorns and a bit of duck weed. I know areas of food love hunting ducks late, which is fine, but not for this area. And with the drought this year there have been no wooducks whatsoever because the acorn shed was lite. Normally you would see about a hundred wooducks on any given morning. Yesterday I hunted and didn't see a single wooduck.

In some areas like the southwestern part of the state, the rut is in early/mid October. You want those poor guys to skip their rut?
It does make sense in other areas like in the Atchafalaya that rut in late January/early Feb.

I think the seasons are pretty spot on for deer in the given areas, maybe there could be some advocating for certain areas moving dates around, but for where I hunt and have hunted it’s great.
I’m not a fan of the state putting more restrictions on hunting limits. I’d rather see a similar model to Mississippi with antler restriction, and eliminating doe days, if that drops the total to 5 deer(2 bucks, 2 does, 1 either) I could live with that. Personally, I’ve never shot 4 deer in a season in Louisiana, in my life, but I don’t want to give up the ability.
It definitely takes a special kind of person to hunt those webfooted marsh deer on a chenier with Roseau cane over your head, but if you’re not happy with how the season aligns with the weather or the rut, you can travel.
