Well, I'm glad you brought the subject up. I've been wondering the same thing. Now I know.

Ask a farmer… they will tell you the first freeze used to be in October in the south delta. The last time I remember being chilly during early bow season was around 1990..

Deer season is based on rut and subsequently fawns being self sustainable.
Also, in many parts of the state, bucks start losing antlers late Feb

Now as for ducks? I agree however it’s a federal issue and since the feds are most interested in stifling its citizens I wouldn’t expect any relief

So deer is set up to sustain the population, but we don't have a later duck season because "fedz is bad"?!

Some of you must wake up and suck on an exhaust with the dumb crap that is said on here.

According to weather data from the St. Joseph weather station, the average first freeze 5 years out of 10 (32° or lower) occurred on or before November 18 between 1981 and 2010.

From 1991 to 2020, the average date was November 16.

I guess a farmer can say what he wants, but weather don't lie.

And just for shits, from 1951 to 1980, the average date was November 7.

They kill ducks well into February in Mexico. Get ducks.com offers a Valentines vacation at a resort where you can legally shoots 20 ducks or 100 shot shells, whichever comes first. I guess now we can blame Mexico too for the duck shortage?
The dates for mexico have always been a sticking point one thing i heard from someone on flyway com was that it's partially based on the over few numbers of hunters there and their overall kill total is low compared to the us... but a case in point 30 years ago ND and SD did not have 400k non resident hunters going there a year.

Sounds like you read a Bill Cooksey post. Exact response I received from him on refugeforum years ago, lol. My argument was, “do we really know how many ducks are being killed by locals in Mexico?” We could just see outfitting harvest numbers from south of the border?

Or they could add a few 100,000 acres of rice fields, rebuild marsh , and ban mud motors ” which I own “ from areas that hold ducks
Make duck hunting great again.

We had frost the last 3 years in vermillion parish in Oct
Like 34 degrees in Gueydan - so the South Delta surely had a freeze

Also the long term avg temps don't show much variation in the last 50 years like you claim

Duck counts and pop estimates are flawed. Ducks population is a lot lower that what is being projected. They interview a biologists who has been working on ducks for 30 something years.

Thanks. Also the additive harvest affect late Jan. (I’m listening now).

I blame Trent Lott for the population crash.

Also, I agree on lower population numbers, podcast cites mid-winter surveys from La and surrounding (which do not show La’s lost ducks in surrounding), which correlate to the USFWS harvest reports for several yrs back, that LA’s losses in harvested ducks do not show up in other states. This also correlates to what I’ve witnessed over the last 40 yrs as well: From ducks, to not shite.

Suppose I wanted to hunt inthe eve???

Do you really think I was inferring that the am temps were 80??

Come on kid… certainly you’re smarter than that .
