Bringing my 7 year old offshore next week for the first time. It will be on a 65 foot boat. He has been on two cruises and never had an issue (obviously different) but I don't want him miserable. I'm wondering if those bands are worth it or just bring some zofran

I, unfortunately, am prone to motion sickness and before my last offshore trip I got my Dr. to prescribe a med for it. This was a couple years ago and I can't remember the name of the meds, but they did work.
You really don't want a kid that young getting seasick. It's bad enough when adults suffer from it and try to do their best to cope.

Get him non drowsy Dramamine. Give it to him the night before the trip and that morning.
Also have him drink some ginger ale for a day or two prior to trip.
ETA: remind him to try and keep his eyes on the horizon. He won’t get sick until he looks down.

My father in law swears that there is no better preventative action for seasickness than drinking ginger ale before you go out. The guy he heard it from basically lives offshore so he would know. I would be skeptical but 99% of what he says ends up being fact.

1 bonine tablet the night before and another 1 in the morning. Don’t mention anything about seasickness.

Don’t make a big deal about. I believe it’s real but it can also be a mind game.
Keep him well fed and hydrated. Puking/dry heaving on an empty stomach is very miserable if it comes to that.

+1 for the Relief Bands
Ginger is also good for motion sickness. As others have mentioned, the Dramamine and ginger ale. Walgreens sells ginger chewing gum that tastes awful, but it helps.

1/4 scopamine patch the night before you leave and keep zofran on hand if he starts feeling bad on the trip.

I think this is the most important thing. If youre worried about getting sea sick, you will get sea sick.

If he does get sick dump a bucket of ice water on his head

Meclizine, transderm patch (scopolamine) works well also. Hydration is key.

I was going to say scopolamine patch but it doesnt look like its approved for children that young? Check with the doc and see if there is something else. Everything else made me drowsy or feel off...that patch makes it all good.

The only time I've ever been sick on a boat was after a heavy dinner and too many drinks the night before. Lesson learned, don't eat a fat steak and have bourbon at 9PM when you're getting on the boat at 6 AM.

Yea I was thinking the trans scop but he's too young. Leaning towards the children's bonine tablets and some back up ginger chews with zofran incase. I think he's gonna be fine but just preparing. I'm glad I don't get sea sick.

My grandfather took me deepsea fishing when I was maybe 10. Pretty rough day on the water (Gulf), and I got sick as a dog, as did one or two others. Spent maybe 30 minutes to an hour puking up my toenails. After that, I felt great the rest of the day.
Funny family story from before I was born. My mom and dad had also gone deepsea fishing with my grandfather and others. My dad was ribbing mom that she'd get sick and should take motion sickness pills (I don't think she did). My dad had his chest puffed out and saying he didn't need a pill since he was in the navy. Well, guess who got sick?

Have you looked at the seas/ weather? Honest answer, don't take him if the seas are not good. There's just some things shouldn't do, and I'm not trying to pussy foot around raising a boy.
Mid summer is also really hard on most people fishing offshore just because of the heat. As said make sure to drink plenty of cold water.
If the seas are good (under 2 ft) as said just the meds and he should be fine.
Is it a party boat? Sportfisher? Does it have AC? Be careful sitting on one of the top decks as there will be more rocking up high.

Yes it's a party boat. A/c, shower, bathroom, etc....
We go a week from today, so I still have time.
