Honestly a little surprised to see so many DJ votes. I still think he can do the job but I may feel a little less confident after Vandy.

One thing is that I think the "burn it all down" culture that is now integral to CFB has reached the point that it's toxic and unproductive. Hiring DJ feels like a half step back from that. Firing Harsin and Freeze were the correct things to do, but you've got to get the hire right in the first place.

Both? Time to revisit Deion?

If I recall correctly, Bo tried to bring up Deion last time. They weren't hearing it. I doubt anything has changed.

Want a coach, not a sideshow. Deion is about DEION.
I think you do right be Ashton, and any other kid who's played in only 3 or 4 games, and let him/them redshirt if they so desire. No guarantees some or even all won't transfer, but there's no guarantees for them either as they'll need to earn their playing time in '26.

Old fashioned, I know, but intercollegiate athletics is supposed to be about the student/athlete.

Let’s talk Durkin as HC

Let’s not

If it’s such a great idea, why didn’t A&M promote him after Fisher was fired or why isn’t Florida (where he also was DC) not considering him? The answer is, because he was a disaster when he was a HC before.

Different time; different place. Maybe he's learned and grown. Maybe he has a passion to be at Auburn that no other candidate does. Or maybe he's not cut out for a head job.

While they should hire the best candidate available, in one way or another, everyone is a gamble...BK looked like an awesome hire for LSU, but less than four years later, they thought not.
Listened to a podcast from Josh Pate and Cole Cubelic this AM. They asked the question, "Who wants the Auburn job?"

To be clear, the question was not "Who, in his right mind, would want the Auburn job?" Instead, they were saying that someone out there (at least one) wants the Auburn job above LSU, Florida, Arkie, Penn State et al and that strong consideration should be given to that/those candidate(s). Everyone else is just weighing one contract against another...what will LSU do for me? UF? Am I better served staying at Ole Miss?

I'm not advocating for or against any candidate(s), though it would seem very likely that Coach Durk would check that box. Obviously not the only important factor, but it's not one that will show up on a resume or in a win/loss record. To be clear, I would be happy with Lane, despite throwing some shade at him above.

Jawja, unless they're playing Satan and his minions.

So- bama?!

Maybe it's the proximity of living in Atlanta, but I hate Jawja more. In 25 years of going to football games, by far the most obnoxious behavior I have seen is from Dawg fans. Can only bring myself to hate 'Bama one day a year. Jawja is 24/7 365.
I will always pull against:

- Notre Dame, unless they're playing Jawja,
- Jawja, unless they're playing Satan and his minions.
I wanted Kiffin or Freeze. Did not want the side show/it's all about Deion that inherently comes with Deion...sorry, just do not like his style and don't think it's a fit for Auburn.

I do remember thinking at some point in the Harsin era, or maybe when frustration was growing with Gus, that Hugh would land at Auburn.

Relative to their history to that point, he did pretty well at Ole Miss, won at Liberty, and developed a Gus castoff QB into an NFL QB. I still think he looked like a good candidate on paper.

Maybe he's just tired. Maybe the trauma of hi Ole Miss dismissal did lasting damage (even self-inflicted trauma is still trauma).

Clearly, he was a mistake, and I'm happy that Auburn is moving on, but I do wish him well and hope he can focus on his health.

Plain and simple he was bad at Maryland and it's a hire that makes cohen look like he cant really ball with everybody else.

His major sports hires would be a big arse coin flip that nobody wanted bc he couldn't close with real candidates, a nepot promotion, and an interim promotion.

That doesnt give me warm and fuzzies for our athletic department.

He was bad at Maryland, and did have a scandal on his watch. OTOH, he already has half the team bought-in (in pretty tough times no less...and they never gave up). If he can get some kind of a spark like that from the offense, he's definitely worth serious consideration.

This is a high-risk game no matter who you hire.

Some of these are laughable, or maybe he's trying to make a point that it's going to a tough hire in a really competitive market?

His list:

Jon Sumrall
Ken Dillingham
Clark Lea
DJ Durkin
Eli Drinkwitz
Ryan Silverfield
Brent Key
Dan Mullen
Gus Malzahn

Obviously, there are some prominent names he doesn't even list, but if you strike his last two, believe that DJ isn't a good candidate, and take into account that Dilly Dilly is unlikely to leave ASU, the field starts narrowing fast with some of those left likely to take other offers..

Choosing ONLY from the list above, who do you think is the MOST RIDICULOUS name he listed? Mullen? Malzahn?

Surely he’s gone, but who knows in today’s world.

For sure, it's the best paying job he'll ever have. And good for him. But I hope we can beat him at least once.

So what? You need to consider that SMU is very likely a better job than Arkansas right now. Arkansas is hurting bad and the competition is going to be deadly for anyone even considering that job.

Rhett has tons of booster support and money at SMU, and a clear path to the playoffs. SMU is not a poor program.

If Arkansas was certain that mama could just call him home, they wouldn't have been seriously auditioning Bobby Petrino up until we blew that up for them.

Agree. And I think Arkie already has their man; they know it, and he knows it. Certainly, no one wants that job more. Probably no coach ever has wanted any job more.

Would that buy freeze another year? If so, I wish we’d go ahead and fire him so we aren’t in that position

I don't think Cohen is blind (to what he's seeing on the field) or deaf (to the fanbase). At least I hope he isn't.

Unless they suddenly start playing like the best team in the SEC in all facets of the game, seems increasingly likely that Hugh will finish the season and take a medical retirement.

I think the point is that it was harder than it should have been.

It wasn't that big of a deal, y'all just want drama

It such a small deal that there were 9 confirmed blown calls that got a long-time official canned. How many of those may have impacted the outcome of the game, directly or indirectly. Indirectly, in that, if you're an Auburn player or coach do you start to think that it's 11 vs. 19 and there's no way you're going to be allowed to win?

As for drama, we want LESS..
quote:

The ball is in the process of and being prepared to be put in play as soon as the play clock starts. The process and preparation can take 1 second and up to the max whether it be 25 or 40 seconds. During this time when the play clock is operating, the defense players cannot clap for any reason. It doesn’t matter if the offense is square dancing and the QB is doing the worm. Is the updated version of the rule really that hard to understand?

This whole discussion around clapping is a red herring and completely irrelevant. If there's an infraction, it's the official's job to throw the flag not Kirby's.

The question is whether Kirby called timeout. He clearly did (as the play clock was about to hit zero). Then he's clapping like a seal telling the official that he didn't. Well Kirby, it's either a TO or a delay of game. You're free to complain to the official about Auburn players clapping if you like, but if you call TO, you should be charged for it.
How are CFB officials assigned anyway?

I had assumed that, generally, entire crews would work together each Saturday and crews were assigned games as a whole. Makes some sense as they would learn to work together more efficiently. "Floaters" available when someone calls in sick.

While that approach might be more efficient, it seems like it would be easier for nefarious elements to compromise an entire crew if they always work together as a cohesive unit versus individual officials if assignments are passed out individually each week. That is, individuals may end up working together two or more times over the course of a season but randomly. Seems like that would help protect the integrity of the game.

Not saying the officials at UGA/AU were compromised, maybe just made some really bad calls, but it's not an outrageous question to ask either.

I trust his opinion much more than some disgruntled Auburn fans.

Point is not whether or not any Auburn players were clapping or not. Kirby was VERY, VERY clearly calling timeout, then lied about it and got a freebee.
