I’m not a deer hunter, but I have discovered something related that I love doing

I’ve been recovering from COVID these last few days and to get some exercise I went stalking through the woods behind my house (tons of deer) yesterday afternoon and this afternoon trying to see deer before they see or smell me. I went the wrong direction yesterday and only saw one doe that didn’t bust me. Jumped 8-10 more that smelled or heard me before I ever saw them. Today however, the wind and sunlight were perfect and over the course of 2.5 hours I was able to stalk within 50-75 yards of a spike and three does (separately) and never spook them. This is much more of a rush than I ever imagined. I was thinking and evaluating what I was doing constantly, so it actually helped clear my mind significantly of the “COVID brain” I’ve had. This is something I will definitely continue to do for fun.

You’re hunting, just not killing. Nothing wrong with that.

See if you can sneak close enough to slap one on the arse!

The leaves are way too dry and noisy for that here in NE Alabama. I felt I was at the very edge of what’s possible today, and was only successful because of a pretty good breeze in my face that blew consistently.

And yes, I know you are joking.

Slapping a deer on the arse is my fetish.

Now cut the distance in half, then try to get away with the motion of drawing a bow without them spooking.
That feeling is why bow hunters bow hunt!!

It’s unhuntable state property. The back of my property borders it. Of course, I realize that doesn’t mean crap to somebody looking to illegally take a nice deer.

Normally I would think this is some weird shite. But there's a dude on here that goes around catching cotton mouths with his bare hands. For fun.

one of my best memories was in my early teens and was out getting ready for bow season in a September drizzling rain. Saw a 4pnt that obviously hadn't spotted me first so decided to see how close I could get. The almost silent walking from the wet ground and favorable wind I was able to get within 50ft.

Would be awesome to be able to get a bow kill this way. But only way I see it is if its currently raining or just rained. Trying to stalk when the leaves are even a little dry seems simply impossible.

I took two short videos of two of the deer today on my iPhone. Is there a good way to upload it and share here? I’m sure most of y’all won’t be impressed, but I think it’s pretty cool.

Don’t really want to dox myself by providing a link to a personal YouTube page. Another way?

what's even more fun is taking a light, maneuverable mirrorless camera with you. all I used to do was still hunt through woods. you get very good at it, taking the camera instead of the gun is the cherry on top (plus proof that you did the stalking).

No matter if it's public or private or hunting is allowed or not, this time of year, please dress head to toe in orange. Never underestimate how dumb or impaired your follow man is.
