AK47, a good one made under a communist regime. Luckily I have several to choose from.

Next would be an AR15... again a good one, I'd grab my LMT over the others I have.

Assuming I can also have a handgun, I'm rolling with my Ruger GSR in 5.56.

I'd be taking mine in .308. Next would be one of my AR's but I'd have to build a kit with some small tools and spare parts to go with it.

It was a tough choice between the two. Huge fan of the scout platform, and Ruger’s take on it using the M77 action.

Anything chambered in 5.56 is going to be extremely valuable because of how common parts are and how much common ammo would be available in a shtf situation.

I’m starting to think if SHTF we all might be grabbing whatever is laying on the ground with ammo. Seems like gathering up enough ammo is the hard part because this outdoor board appears to have enough weapons to hold our own.

I love my mini-14 and I'm accurate with it. Never understood that knock on it. But, I've also got the AR-15. I mean, you can hunt with it and fight too.

If you are worried about TSHTF, and you don’t have several thousand rounds already, you are way behind the curve.

ETA: I would not pick my 308 because it’s DC compliant

No kidding. I’ve got the market cornered on quail hunting shells. I’m sort of SOL.

I am absolutely not prepared for SHTF day. My 77 year old Vietnam veteran father has enough ammo to arm Mobile though. Funny how much smarter my dad got after I turned 50.

AR-12 should be the runaway favorite here. Not sure why a shotgun hasn't even been mentioned!! Bird shot, buck shot and slugs. Literally covers all of your needs. After the ar-12, my next in line is a reliable 410/45. Having to send a high caliber rifle shot hundreds of yards in a shtf situation is a bit of a stretch. And war is far beyond shtf

Probably my AR due to ammo and parts availability.

My 10/22 with a can is hard to pass up. I have thousands of rounds of .22 in a couple of ammo cans.

A Marlin .30-30 with a Leupold 2x-7 is a solid choice, but .30-30 will probably be hard to come by.

I have a Savage .22/.410 over/under that I got from my grandfather...it is coming regardless of anything else.

You should have at least 1k rds of ammo for the major caliber of guns you own ie 9mm 5.56 45 acp. Not talking about 45lc 44 mag or your 6.5 creed deer rifle. I try to never let my stash get below 2K.

Definitely going AR-15

If I was in places that were more wide open like some of yall have posted pics of before. Then the answer would be AR-10

Probably because the OP asked which “rifle”. Shotgun is definitely more versatile than .308, 5.56, 7.62x39, 9mm, etc but isn’t what was asked for and lacks the long range capability of a rifle platform.
