I don't mind so much when all my lawn equipment works right. Last my weedeater is running half throttle.

its not uncommon to see old timers mowing or bushogging in the middle of the night in the summer to avoid the heat. I love mowing, I don't think id ever pay anyone to do it, unless I was out of town or the lawnmower was being repaired or something.

Coming home on Friday to a fresh cut yard sure makes the porch feel better

It's still the best money I spend every month. About a decade of freedom, now, and it feels good.

Welcome to the Dark Side
Nothing like a fresh cut yard, edged, weedeated and blown driveway.

I quit cutting my grass around 36 yrs old. Bc where I live it costs $25 to get it done. That’s well worth it considering the time spent and equipment costs.

Lotta truth in this thread.
I'm very early 50s, but sold out about 15 yrs ago, with no regrets.
One spring, I brought all my lawn gear in to the shop for repairs and called the lawn service who does all my neighbors' yards to put me on their rotation for a month or so. It was so easy to come home to a perfectly done yard every Friday, I never called them to say stop coming.
I went through that period of wanting to upgrade from a 21 inch cut Toro to a 42 inch or bigger zero turn mower (you know, to "work smarter, not harder") and looked at the price tag and decided that I'd much prefer it if someone else bought that mower, stored that mower, repaired that mower, and heck the lawn service is 3 guys who can do my yard in 30 minutes....they can do that too.
No shame in supporting the local economy by giving local guys legit quality work.
You retirees who keep busy by mowing grass, more power to you.

You should be ashamed of yourself.
I’m 39. I look forward to my grass cutting.

So if folks are paying others to mow their lawns, I'm guessing that they either don't have kids or their kids have left the home.
Am I right?

The 90 mins it takes to cut my grass once a week is just about my only free time to myself. Put the earbuds in and put on a podcast or some tunes and just zone out.
I'm not giving that up anytime soon.

For the record, I enjoy cutting my grass.

I enjoy fishing and gardening too much so I pay my bro-in-law $100 to cut my 4 acres. I don’t even own a mower anymore.
Not ashamed one damn bit.

kid is grown and gone
I mowed that bitch for 12 years, 6.5 acres of Bahia and st aug
did it, done it, now when I come home from work twice a month it looks like a golf course
he could charge me double and it would still be worth it

I have done so for a few years now but just the front. It’s pretty cheap ($25 every other week) and that crew can rollout anytime, rather me only after 6pm or on weekends, they have the equipment and manpower to make it look better than I could, and aside from available time also when I don’t have other house/yard or other projects to do. Aside from feeling slightly cucked it’s a win win win. Front always looks tip top. I still do the back yard.

I know I commented a few days ago, but that is exactly my set up now. I'll hear mowers and edgers going while I'm working in the morning, and after an hour or so my yard is done. Still take care of the back, but not having to deal with all the extra work weedeating and edging out front has saved me a ton of time. I'll pay for it another couple of years then my oldest boy can cut it.

Did you just say...a fancy....side by side?
I guess I enjoy it. Nothing like walking to the road and staring back at my edging job.
