it was fun, but not really. You ride almost two hours one way to get your arse whipped by a big fish

Guess I didn't think about that. I've never caught a billfish, and I'd probably be bragging like a sumbitch if I caught a big blue, but at this point I'm way more interested in the meat than a picture.

Fresh seared yellowfin is like crack.

I know, but I never caught one.

Few things I've found in this world that can compare to a yft tuna smashing a topwater bait or ripping a drift line out of your hands. Be careful man, it's not like bream fishing for snapper and AJ, it's addictive as hell.

I had an AJ hit a bait the other day, fish might have been 45lbs and it kicked this guys arse that was dying to catch a YF. Told him you ain't ready for the big leagues son, have a seat.

I saw big men get taken out by small YF tuna.

that's right. Tuna were a nuisance. Back when I was living the salt life, all we targeted were bills. Had to win that monay!

I love watching guys with what I call "gym muscle" take on a yellowfin. Big guys always fall the hardest.

You don't have to ride nearly that far to catch AJ.

If you weren't crazy about fighting an AJ, good luck with fighting a tuna.

A few years ago I had this vision/dream about catching a yellowfin on a popper. i ended up going for an overnighter and about 5:45 am as the sky was just starting to lighten up they started busting bait at the surface. i was standing on the bow of a 34' Venture throwing a yo-zuri popper and one exploded on it! If you like throwing a chug bug for bass or a top dog for trout, chunking a popper for YFT is the holy grail. I will go to my grave with the memory of that 80lb yellowfin blowing up on that popper engrained in my brain!

Had the joy of that this weekend using an green/blue angry popper. It was about a 35# fish. That number will probrobaly grow a few pounds each year...

I seriously don't believe I've ever seen't anything truer said here on the OB. Seriously, their conditioned muscles just ain't made for long term battle.

Well said.

meh. the fights offshore vary widely fish-to-fish. we've caught 50-60 lb AJs that easily outfought 80lb & 100lb tuna. same thing with snappers. sometimes a 15 lb fish comes up easy and sometimes a 7 lber pulls drag multiple times.

I finished a 40lb AJ, but it utterly finished me too. If gym muscles dont help, what does? technique?

Whats up with Asians and sharks?

They like the fins. Shark fin soup is a delicacy in Asia.
