re: Concealed carry pistol.

Personally, but for most people I'd rec a small, single stack 9mm that's DAO or striker fired. Some of the better known 9mm single stack mag guns in this category are Kahr CW9/PM9/CM9, Ruger LC9/LC9s, Walther PPS M2, S&W M&P Shield, Springfield Armory XDs, Sig 365, Glock M43 and Beretta Nano. For those willing to adequately learn the SAO platform, I'd throw in the Sig 938/Kimber Micro 9/Springfield 911 9mm as well as a reliable 1911 (either Officer or Commander size). Most of these guns will be carried inside (or outside) the waistband; some of the smaller single stack 9mm's (like the CM9) can also be pocket carried in some pants. Remember that for IWB cc, you'll need to wear pants that are 1-2" bigger in the waist.

If you intend to cc outside the waistband (OWB), I'd look at the double stack mag guns. I started off w/ IWB cc, but now use OWB more of the time. In this category I'd include the various compact and mid-size Glocks, M&P's, XD's, Canik TP9 Elite SC and DAO Sig Sauers. Some like to cc a double stack gun IWB. I tried it for a while w/ my first cc gun (SA XD 40 S&W) before quickly realizing it was NOT for me.
I'm sure I've left off some good ones, but these are the first that come to my mind.
The main thing is to find a reliable gun that handles well for you. Glocks are VERY good guns, but they don't handle/point well for me. If you don't like the trigger, instead of modifying it I'd suggest getting a different gun that has a trigger you find acceptable. Also decide what type of features you want your gun to have. If you want an external safety lever, then it won't be a Glock. If you want a grip safety, your gun will have to be an 1911 or an XD/XDs. If possible, handle as many as you can before deciding on one.

Most importantly, you want a safe and reliable gun that you shoot well and is comfortable enough to carry so that you'll be willing to wear it. Keep us updated.

I didn't even mention revolvers since you've already settled on the 9mm, but forgot that Ruger actually chambers their fine LCR in 9mm.

I dont understand why people have a hard time grasping that its possible to accidently pull the trigger. In that case, an actual safety could save someone's life.

There is about a .00000000001 percent chance of that happening. NO ONE is grabbing the slide and taking it off the gun like in the movies. That is ridiculous.

If you push the slide up against someone’s body hard enough, it can take the slide out of battery not allowing the gun to fire but that also has a minuscule possibility of happening.

Don’t get me wrong, I carry a semi auto 99% of the time but from time to time I also grab a revolver. The great majority of those who carry concealed are carrying semi auto and the advantages of size + capacity are the reasons.

Everything I carry is ready to simply pull the trigger, no chambering needed; Sig 228, 365, 1911, Glock 30, M&P Shield. My 1911 requires me to swipe the safety off but it is already cocked with a round chambered.

I carry in good quality holsters so I’m not worried about an accidental discharge or the trigger getting accidentally pulled.

If your instructor thinks a .357 magnum doesn’t have considerable recoil and allows for faster follow up shots, then they obviously don’t have much experience with firearms. :SMH:

Sounds like your instructor was scared of his/her own shadow.

I don't understand how a trigger gets pulled accidentally? Most people are not going to practice enough to become proficient with their weapon. In a crisis situation a big majority of people are not going to remember to take the safety off. With just a little training anyone can learn not to put their finger on the trigger until they're ready to fire the weapon, it takes a deliberate pull on the trigger for them to fire. JMO

I do not fault anyone for buying a pistol with a mechanical safety if that is what they want. Just do a little research and and try to fire a few different weapons before you decide.

And I agree with that statement....

However, a very young child can pick up a loaded GLock, and pull the trigger with no problem!
A child will not know to disengage a barrel bolt safety.
Trigger safeties are NOT safe for the inexperienced and young.

You are partly correct.

You draw if you reasonably believe that you or a third party (family member is about as far as this third party stuff should go) is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm.

But if you draw the pistol, and the person whose actions caused you to draw the gun drops his weapon, leaves or otherwise ceases to be a threat -- you have zero right to use deadly force.

So no one should have a mindset that says, "If I draw my pistol I'm going to be using it."

If he wants your wallet, tell him No. See what happens next.
