About to go through concealed carry class and need a compact handgun. I’m more of a Rifle guy as far as guns so I’ve been doing a little research. I’m currently looking at a Shadow Systems CR920 combat in 9mm. Fits my hand well and I peek their warranty/replacement specs. What do you guys carry? Pros/cons? I have been hearing the “let the gun pick you” comment a lot and this and the glock are kinda where I am at the moment. Don’t hate the Smith and Wesson. Wanted to like the Springfield hellcat but just didn’t. Any input?

I prefer a 40 cal. But you can't go wrong with the 9mm.

Get a pistol with a locking safety....I have a Glock with the trigger safety only, and it scares me. Just me opinion.

Concur with this. When I do open carry (not often, but usually in the woods), it is a Glock 17, but for concealed carry, I'd want a locking safety.

Thats a matter of preference, but that trigger safety in NOT a true safety. Horribly unsafe around inexperienced and children.

Great for law enforcement, but not for others.

“ Horribly unsafe around inexperienced and children.”
I agree with this I do not have any children. My thing is y’all are understating how the Glock “trigger safety” works. It is physically impossible for a Glock to fire unless the trigger is pulled because of the engineering behind the internal safeties they have built in.

I’m no expert but when I went through the class I learned that

1. An automatic can actually be grabbed by the perp and the slide disabled

2. Most homeowners don’t load and cock an automatic so have to waste valuable seconds puking back the slide.

3. A double action revolver avoids 1 and 2 and you can leave one chamber empty for safety. A peep can grab the cylinder too but you will have a billet in him first, faster.

4. Shoot to kill not wound. One in chest, one in head to avoid body armor.

5. A 357 magnum has good stopping power because I it is strong but not too strong. It will not pass through and will mushroom and fragment more stopping a peep on crack. Also the recoil doesn’t mess up second shot as much and ammo is available.

For what it’s worth. There will be a million critics.

Here's some recommendations based on what I've shot and in no specific order....

SIG P365/9mm - either the standard or XL version or as i did, use the XL frame on the standard 365. Can be bought w/safety.

SIG P938/9mm - miniature 1911 IMO and has a 1911 style safety.

SIG P238/.380 - same as the P938, just different caliber. BOTH can be good front pocket carry.

SIG P320/9mm - carry or find a subcompact version. Grip modules are good because you can get a size that you like. Multiple P320 options out there.

S&W Shield or new Shield Plus/9mm - can also be bought with a safety.

Canik TP9 SC/9mm - great trigger and great price point!!

H&K VP9/9mm - the only H&K pistols i like have the push button mag release vs the paddle release.

Glock 43X/9mm - get the Shield Arms mags to have that double stack luxury. If you can find an MOS version, then you can add an optic later if you want.

Glock 45 or 19x/9mm - I'm no Glock fan boy, but i love my 19x. It's the only Glock i own.

In the end, go someplace where you can lay hands on and a place that doesn't mind you checking out the trigger. I believe Academy is one, that WILL NOT remove the trigger lock.

Stay safe!

I’m sure this would be a good pick. Looks interesting. Something a little different from the usual Glock or Sig.

It all depends on your body type and where you live as to what you can conceal carry comfortably. Also you may want a few guns to carry. Because if you're wearing gym shorts and a tshirt vs jeans and a polo a glock 19 for example would be difficult to conceal in gym shorts but easy in jeans.

I Cary a SW bodyguard 380. It’s what I passed my test with. I’d love to have the smaller Glock 9mm though

No problem man, I'm just thankful I don't have to go anywhere where I need to conceal carry.

I own a Shield, LC9S, CM9 and P365. Can't go wrong with either. The Shield is usually on sale for cheap.
