Went fishing with my dad and as we are reeling in the lines got a catfish. Went to get grab it and it turned and impaled in the meaty part of my hand, between thumb and index finger. Hurts like a mofo. Had to yank the barb our, that was fabulous.
Well its is day two, no pain in had but it is still swollen. Been doctoring it as well by myself.

Be very careful with it. Make sure no infection gets in it. My old boss had to have part of his finger amputated because a piece of the barb broke off in his finger and developed bad infection.

Epsom salts, but you're in for some pain.

ETA I have a relative who happened to be there when mine happened and he's a doc who lives on the coast and that's what he had me do.

Squeeze and make bleed, every time I get stuck I make it bled until it stops. This flushes as much of the slime and shite as you can without going to a doctor.

For minor Catfish cuts rubbing the goo on it helps with the pain for anything this deep clean the hell out of it, flush it, drench it in antiseptic and bandage it if you're doing stuff with the hand.

Hopefully you tried to get it to bleed out when it happened.
Normal wound cleaning process.
Epsom salt in water as hot as you can stand for 15 minutes.

My FIL got a barb embedded past his knuckle. It was a million to one shot. Had to take him to the hospital and they cut it out. Right between his index and middle finger.

If you are near an aftercare their copays are usually cheap, they will clean it good or tell you if you need an ER.

I did the same thing wade fishing with a hardhead, had to get some hemostats, turn my head and yank as hard as possible to get the barb out.

It hurt like Hell and dropped me to my knees then these red streaks started going up my forearm.

I was young and dumb at the time and never went to the ER or Dr, it went away after a few days

Go to the doctor or at least call your doc and see if he will prescribe an antibiotic. As others have said infections are nothing to play with.

I had a similar puncture wound between my big toe and second toe (flounder gig incident).

The next day I limped into urgent care hardly able to move. They cleaned it out really good, and squirted it with a liquid at pressure. It felt soooooo much better walking out plus they gave me antibiotics.

Go to urgent care.

A little late for you I know, but you should keep a bleach/water solution on the boat for such an occasion.

Been doing that for years when getting hit by the occasional catfish-----and it's almost always the small ones that get you since the large cats barbs tend to round off as they age.

I keep monkey blood with me for just such a wound.

I bathe the area with that shite once you express the blood out.

Regular channel or blue cat? Or a hard head?

Hardheads are sons of bitches.

Regular catfish clean it, then run your hands on the fish to get some slime and rub slime on it. It relieves some pain and helps it heal. The purpose of the slime is to help prevent bacterial infections on the fish itself

Hardhead got me as a 10 year old. It was sort of fun at first with blood squirting out like a cafe squeeze ketchup bottle, then it hurt. Back then no triple antibiotic so ichthamol and bandaid overnight, then let it heal uncovered. It was on the side of the wrist and the barb hit the bone and hurt like a mofo after my fun wore off quickly.
