Opinions?

I have a few 1911s.
Two of them are sig’s.
A few are higher end.
Dollar for dollar the sigs hold their own.
I’ve heard that the rugers and Remingtons are ok too, but have no direct experience.

Several Springfields fit that bill.
I also have a Para Ordinance that I bought for around $400 or so several years ago at Academy on Black Friday. I like the gun. It’s a commander size.

Certain Springfields will go in that price range. I’ve been happy with the 2 I have. Also got a Colt defender for less than 1000, I like it too. I prefer Springfield because they don’t have the series 80 firing pin safety. Some colts can be found without it as well.

Want the 10mm model, such a sexy pistol

I'll get downvotes, but the Rock Island Armory GI Standard is a great low-end 1911 ($500-600)
When I worked at a gun range, my neighbor brought one over with 5 boxes of ball ammo and a box of JHP's. He asked me to break it in for him. That pistol didn't miss a single round out of 250+ rounds. I was also impressed with it's accuracy.

I'd put Tisas high on the list if you really would like to keep it below that $600 mark.

Dan Wesson. May be a little over 1k, but best value before custom.
ETA: never mind. I just checked the prices. I got my vbob for $1200 back in the day.
It never crossed my mind that Dan Wesson was actually the great grand son of the co founder of Smith & Wesson.

I have a couple of Sig 1911s (P938 and a 1911).
They're both very good guns. The 1911 is my only full size 1911 in .45.
The only thing about a sig is the extractor is an external extractor instead of internal like most all others.
Also, the Springfield Garrison 9mm that B&B posted in the gun thread is cheap, but it's a 9mm It's not new but cheap none the less.
Not better or worse, just different.

When you posted the 9mm Ronin's for 599 and then later at 499, that was a deal.
Never mind that I'd already bought at 599.

Blem Colt se-a1. Get one while you can.

I'd look for a Colt 1911 Gold Cup National Match 70 Series. Current low prices are around $1200, as you might find one for $1000

DW has gone batshit crazy with their price increases. The Specialist has gone up $600 in the last 2 years. They are getting into Ed Brown and Les Baer territory.

If you’re not in a hurry watch gunbroker auctions on the weekends. I won 2 colts in the last month that were great buys.
I watch for auctions ending on Saturday and Sunday nights when people usually set a bid and forget about it. It’s a buyers market on used guns right now.
You can setup a search for what you are looking for and save the search. Sort the search for time ending soonest so the auctions ending soon sort to the top of the search.
Wiley Clapp .45 LW commander for $768 To my Dealer
This gun would easily sell for $1300-$1400 normally. They had it listed as a Colt Commander. The seller didn’t know what they had.
1997 Colt Custom shop .45 competition. $1200
This is pretty close to a Colt Special Combat. Which run around $2k
