I’d still risk it.

Hopefully he didn’t kill “mine”. There’s a few north of town I watch from time to time.

Quite honestly, the turkey was a better choice. Much wiser than an eagle. Eagles are quite the dumb bird.

I'll never forget, I was about 11 and scoped in on what I thought was a chicken hawk in the top of a cypress behind the house.

I don’t know what a chicken hawk is, but if it’s a bird of prey how is shooting that much better?

Or just the simple fact that it's not a lazy arse scavenger. Eagles will eat on carrion just as quick as a vulture, and fight for it too.

December 14th 2019 coming in late for "quote of the year".

Before tagging started I would go home and run into my old high school buddies up north and ask if they killed any deer this year. Typical answer "yeah I killed 12 and Johnny Mack killed 15, I'm trying to catch up" ha ha

I've actually heard some people say the turkey was suggested tongue in cheek.

Lmao! That's not an excuse for breaking the law, a-hole.

ETA: Unless of course you were 11 before 1972, then you're just an a-hole.

Penalize the kid, but to start him out in life with a felony over this would be ridiculous

How do you know he broke the law, cowboy? Take of depredating birds is legal with a permit. Calling him an a-hole for protecting his flock seems unnecessary given you don’t know his situation, bud.

You do realize farmers get permits to remove all sorts of animals which are otherwise protected?

I was 11 in 1963. We killed a lot of stuff we shouldn't have just because we were trying to improve our aim. Game laws in south La. in 1963 were considered optional by the general populace. Particularly if you were 11 years old. Not saying it was right. Just telling the truth.
