Think Ivan was the last time we had a hurricane in Birmingham.
Yep. That a-hole didn't want to quit either. Hell, it looped around and came back for more in the Gulf.

Family reported from Arabi.
Limited amount of damage. Some lost roof shingles...neighbor lost a peach tree.
Flooded during katrina only because of the industrial canal levee breaking.
However, did see a video of a buddy's brother in Chalmette lose a roof.
Looks like arnaulds diner collapsed. Lots of bent power poles down by Valero.

My son (7 years old) loved it. We stayed outdoors entire time to take it in.
That's how you make a little weather baw.

Trees bent almost in half near Birmingham. Was still a Cat 1 at midnight
Can't believe this thing has moved so quickly.

How's the bawette handling the night away from home?

She's chill. Sleeping next to me while I watch some Weather Channel. She's a pretty chilled out baby in general, as long as she gets bottles on demand.
Bummed she didn't get to have her first eye experience at one month but eh it just is what it is.

Kind of hope the SEC replay guy has shitty sleep.

You mention Ivan...I was in a hospital with a newborn in meridian ms when Ivan rolled through. Entire town lost power, but the hospital had generators, so we were good.
Sister in law was determined that we name the kid Ivan. Big nope on that.
One year later we dealt with Katrina. That was a real bitch.

Yes. I’m in Lakeview near Canal Blvd / 610 and thought it was closer to me.

So I'm sure people have been asking what happened with the shear and colder water and Zeta intensifying instead.
Zeta had strong flow out of the S and SW, pushing in warm moist air from the southern gulf. You get warm air advection (warm air being moved from one place to another). Additionally, this positioning causes air to rise in front of the jet stream ripping out to the west. Giving the hurricane a little extra convection boost to counteract the cooler water.
This let it sustain it's core and not get too knocked off by the incoming wind shear and even strengthen. It helped it was moving roughly in line with the direction the shear was coming from. You could see the effect of the shear as it approached and got asymmetrical with all the clouds and rain on the NE side.
This placement of the upper low also says there was some additional help providing vertical motion where Zeta was. I'm not about to get into QG theory, because all y'alls eyes would glaze over. Just trust me that this probably also helped Zeta.
Unfortunately, Zeta just ended up being in about the perfect spot to intensify. It was slow enough into the Gulf to miss a lot of dry air and just at the right time to actually get help from the thing we thought would shear it over the weekend.
It's 2020 after all.

Sure many have been wondering about that but we're more fascinated by the blue and white vagina on the Texas-New Mexico board.

Can we see another named storm in November?
Posted on 10/29/20 at 1:16 am to LegendInMyMind
Going into what’s left of the old northern eyewall where I am near Birmingham. Pretty rough and noisy for sure.

Yes, unfortunately.

If it’s anything like 2005 we can get a December or January named storm.
