Power went off briefly here in central Alabama and it's only breezy outside.

How fast was this storm moving? Like, 40 mph path?

NHC did well with the forecast track. The problem is forecasting the intensity. Zeta went against the common sense idea that the cooler shallow waters near the coast and the wind shear that would be present would weaken it. Instead, like Sally and Laura, Zeta basically continued to strengthen until landfall.

it was understood that the storm wouldn't be over the colder waters long enough for it to have super adverse effects

the lack of sheer with that cold front though... that was stunning

It could hit the Atlantic, strengthen, then go to Florida.

That front forcing the turn made all the difference in the shear.

Is there any way to easily explain why it forced a turn vs sheared?

Dude, you should’ve planned better. That stuff thaws quickly. I’m so tired of fricking hauling tit milk back and forth to my parents’. Gonna hurt seeing all that liquid gold go to waste, but baby is about to go all Golden Corral in that bitch.

Been so keyed in on this storm I don't know what the future looks like but I do know the other day some models were picking up another hurricane in the exact same spot where this one formed.

It was just the direction of Zeta's approach allowed it to not feel the shear as much. The shear was there, it just didn't have as big an impact as if it would have if Zeta had approached on more of a due north movement.

There's a technical description for it, but I'm not the one to provide it.

Rds or rt3 posted something about 20 pages back.

Seems slim, but possible.

Believe it was delayed which took the shearing out of play

Gotcha, someone mentioned the sweet spot with the jetstream and all. Not sure I would understand the explanation anyway.

No way in hell am I going to say we won't see a November storm in 2020.
