if it would've slowed down it probably would've got much worse.

With a slower forward, it would have reached Cat 5 status at the rate it was intensifying at. I don't want to even think about the type of storm surge it would have created had been a slower moving storm either.

How preposterous was that. Scoot is a great man.

Rds or rt3 posted something about 20 pages back.

Seems slim, but possible.

Gotcha, someone mentioned the sweet spot with the jetstream and all. Not sure I would understand the explanation anyway.

the winds that were supposed to shear it instead just pushed it

like a bicyclist getting a tailwind instead of a crosswind

What's the rule of thumb on how long food will stay good in the fridge without power? I haven't opened it.

An 80 mph wind gust occurred in Grove Hill, Alabama, just before 11:30 p.m.! That's in Clarke County. #ALwx #Zeta

River Ridge checking in- just got service back. Everything went to shite here when a big arse tree fell across Sauve blocking the road and taking the power with it. Also knocked down the ATT and Cox lines. That was after the eye too, so I agree that the back end was worse.

Anyone have a guess as to max gust down here? I would say at least 70.

We took this one head on. Came onshore as a top end Cat 2 at 110mph. For historical purposes I wish they gave us credit for Cat 3 115 mph. Right over Nola metro. We did good, baws. My son (7 years old) loved it. We stayed outdoors entire time to take it in. Super fast arse moving storms FTW.

Good job guys, overall. Hope everyone did ok.

Trees bent almost in half near Birmingham. Was still a Cat 1 at midnight. Will be interesting to see what the 1AM advisory says. Think Ivan was the last time we had a hurricane in Birmingham.
