What? Pines will blow over just the same as everything else.

They can of course, but they have a long deep tap root system. Oaks have flat shallow roots.

In my experience, tropical winds(especially swirling, tornado like) will bend and twist the tops of pines until they break off.

You are looking at 30-40mph sustained winds and gusts around 50. Tell folks to prepare absolutely, but dont oversell

It’s looking a good bit higher than that in much of the area from what I’m seeing, but still nothing doomsday.

Yeah my aunt, uncle, and other cousin lives in St Rose so if the cousin that lives in Violet wants to get out I assume they would just go there.

This is correct. Pine trees will not uproot, but the top half of the tree will snap all fall. Oak trees will uproot and fall sometimes, but usually they're ok.

Pines will uproot but generally need a soaked ground and much higher sustained winds over an extended period of time

This storm doesn’t meet those factors but it does look like one that can bring some tree damage.

Note the way that winds will be blowing and if blowing trees toward a home, either leave or stay on the side of the house away from the area that they can fall. I did this for Katrina and it worked. Many trees fell on my house

Mandeville. 2 young kids. Lots of trees in range of house. Pine trees and water oaks. 2 story house so can stay downstairs during the wind obviously. Stay or go?

In same boat with 2 young kids in Mandeville.

40+ trees on my property with several pines within falling distance of house. I was going to stay for a Tropical Storm but after waking up to a Cat 2, heading to the in-laws in Baton Rouge.

Saw too many trees fall during Olga last year to stick around.

Storm surge has increased and tracked west a bit. But obviously you didn’t get my point.

Wife is stuck at oschner as well. They told them business as usual nothing to worry about. Ridiculous.

Same.

I just told her to take my old 4runner to the hospital around 4.

Even if there is flooding, won't matter.

Live in Metairie, work in Luling. I have to head into the office to get some things situated before the storm.

What time should I have my arse across the Luling Bridge before things begin to deteriorate?

Same here. We are staying and think everything will be fine, but still trying to decide what time everyone needs to be home and settled. Wife has work til 6 and have told her to make a fuss to close and leave early.

Latest LOCATION...26.0N 91.7W is a bit of jog (.1 degree) to the east.
Any chance that represents a trend?

Yeah people seem to forget it just don’t realize that the max winds in a hurricane are in a very small area in the wall. Just 20 or so miles away can make a huge difference.

Reading this thread reminds me how Louisiana people like to have pride and act tough about riding out hurricanes. I never understood that. It's a silly thing to take pride in in my opinion.

The people I know that rode out Laura and/or Delta say they wish they wouldn't have.

It's not worth the risk to me. A cat 2 means I'd find someplace to ride it out. That and the inconvenience of no utilities makes it an easy decision.

Good luck to all and God bless

Might not be that easy. Roads could be full of tree limbs.

Could Be, but if you come in on Paris Rd off of I-10 shouldn’t have that problem that route main concern would be flooding between the Levee protection system and NOLA East
