Current Weather channel radar showing Grand Isle landfall.
Actually it is showing landfall just West of Port Fourchon. ( about 10 miles West of the westernmost tip of Grand Isle. The track shows it passing just North of the island.
No trying to be a stickler about a few miles. But IMO 15 or 20 miles is going to be the difference on how this thing affects you.

(Not directed at you personally) This is amazing watching this from afar. How everyone an be so oblivious to this is beyond me. Yeah, a Cat 2 isn't going to level the city, but it's still not going to be a walk in the park.

No doubt 15-20 miles is crucial

I agree completely agree with you here, but one thing to take into account is the infrastructure in the city is absolute crap. A CAT 2 will probably do more damage in NOLA than most think. Not to mention these employers putting employees at risk by being on the roads in the weather.

New Orleans is scheduled to receive worse conditions than Baton Rouge got in Gustav. If you live there, charge your cell phones because it's going to be awesome video that you'll want to keep.

I work on the eastside of houma. I will be shocked if they let us go home early.

It absolutely is, I told my daughter to stay at home but she’s a young adult. I can’t make her do anything so now I’m going to worry until I hear she’s home. At 21 years old she has absolutely no experience driving in extreme weather

Pics of 21 year old daughter?

Mandeville. 2 young kids. Lots of trees in range of house. Pine trees and water oaks. 2 story house so can stay downstairs during the wind obviously. Stay or go?
You have to decide but many can tell you being in a house with no power for an extended period of time with kids can be rough.
It seems like there’s a lot people who don’t realize this might be a Cat 2 making a direct impact among a much more densely populated area than the previous two. Probably due to the first two threatening NOLA, but missing it.
Stay safe all!

It’s insanity. I’m definitely not one to over react for hurricanes, but this one is coming this afternoon. As of now my wife is stuck at the hospital and they haven’t cancelled anything.

Walk off pine tree distance to house. If more than the top say...20 feet are gonna hit it, I might ease on out.
The oaks likely won't give a damn.
This is correct. Pine trees will not uproot, but the top half of the tree will snap all fall. Oak trees will uproot and fall sometimes, but usually they're ok.
I'd just check and see if any of the trees look dead or rotten. Those are way more likely to fall. If you have a two story house, i would think staying in an interior room downstairs should be fine. Even if a tree does fall on the house, the second floor should protect you from a direct hit.

Y’all remember when ebr cancelled schools for a week for a storm that was 5 days out and never even struck the us as a hurricane?
And now we have this cat 2 coming within 60 miles and... nothing.
Love the consistency.
