It was fairly expensive at the time and if you don't have gold or silver around the house it could be used to barter. You really couldn't show up with anything modern and expect to barter outside of commodities that were used then.

3. 7.62 AR15
4. 1,000 rounds for #3
5. Wifey

As we know from history and all the goofy zombie, apocolypse shows/movies, NOTHING is more valuable than firepower.

1. Five Krugerrands. I might need to obliterate dates or pound them into small pieces.
2. 1894 Winchester in 30-30, loaded.
3. C96 Mauser
4. Ammo for C96.
5. Amoxicillin.

I figure if you take anything too advanced that you will draw unwanted attention. I'll use a small portion of the gold to buy transportation to New England, sell the 1894 and C96 to Browning or Colt, take that money and invent refrigeration, go into production, and move to San Francisco.

I'd have all sorts of problems. Clothes we wear would have most of us shot within a hour. I have no gold coins. Some gold jewelry. Gold in 1878 was $19.48 ounce, today its $3211. Don't have any quart containers of penicillin laying around the house to sell cures for various infections. I doubt there is a 1878 sports almanac, and if there is I don't have one.

Think I would stay here given the parameters. Yall post about it when you get back.

1. My smartphone
2. Wife’s smartphone
3. Plug in car charger
4. Plug in car charger
5.. Wife’s engagement ring

Spend the rest of the hour downloading info on:
Sports scores
Stock data
History almanacs
Current big name law firms that were in existence then.

2 smart phones for as much data storage as possible and in case 1 breaks.

2 car charges for 12 volt charging and in case 1 breaks.

Use ring to sell for initial capital.

Move to NYC to make a fortune in the markets and sports gambling for a year.

During the year set up trusts and companies with instructions on future stock transactions and gambling to transfer and grow the wealth to the present with the help of the law firms. Use multiple multiple setups in case some are stolen by unscrupulous lawyers.

If for some reason the phones broke/were stolen, take what money I have made by the end of the year and leave instructions based upon what I can remember.

Nothing

Had family that worked that mine so it would be a "McFly" moment for me and would get to see my kin. Would enjoy the year knowing that someday it would be the largest and deepest gold mine in the Western Hemisphere so I would be getting some "before" artwork that I could sell when I got back when it was retrieved from its hiding place in 2025.

Guessing while I was there would try and hang out with the Lakota and convince my people to invest in Homestake Mining Company when it went public in 1879 and set up a irrevocable family trust with the stock that could grow by the time I came along in the 1900's. Probably would have asked to be adopted by the tribe so I could get in on the casino and tax free tobacco that would happen over a century later.

In essence

Take nothing there
Leave with nothing
Let Mother Nature and Father Time march on

From the pictures of hookers in that time period I’ve seen, you can probably leave the antibiotics.
