We have what's called two "floating holidays" every year to take as you wish. These days are PTO and separate from vacation or sick leave.

Anybody else find it strange that she tweeted an email from her boss? I know she did it in a positive manner, but I'd still be annoyed if an employee were posting emails on social media

We get 3 week paid vacation (although I am at 4 now, you get another day each year you're with the company but at 10 years you max at 4 weeks, after 15 years you get 5 weeks). Use it or lose it.

When it comes to being sick (me or the kids), funerals, etc they are pretty lax. I can work remote if needed, but they pretty much just let me do what I need to do. They don't actually keep track of it. Great company to work for (in the tech industry).

I never understood the point of the different categories.
I have 20 days to use as i please.

my wife gets bitched at for taking off from her state job all the time. Don't give someone time off if you don't want them to take it. If i've earned 6 weeks vacation in a year, don't get made when i take a 2 week trip to Europe or whatever. YOLO. I'd rather her retire with a few weeks of vacation left, rather than accrue 3 years worth like her grandma has right now.

I'm salary plus OT

15 days vacation a year

7 paid holidays

No sick days, however if you miss a day or 2 with something minor the boss doesn't say anything. In the 5 years I've been in the office I've called in sick once.

Bereavement pay is 1 day and only for Sibling, Spouse, Parent, Child or In Laws

Depending on the industry and the nature of your job this can be normal.

I am skeptical of the tweet, post or whatever its called. I would not be surprised if it wasnt done as free advertising.

My job has vacation, sick leave, comp time and holidays. We get a few days of undocumented sick leave and after that you better bring a note. Seems to work good and cut down on abuse.

My company uses "Permissive time off" so I can take off as much/whenever I want as long as my project stays on track.

I take off whenever I want. I don't work I don't get paid . I trade time for money constantly and can't imagine any other way to live.

I have unlimited time off with my company. Some of the lower levels get 25 days a year for PTO + sick + 10 holidays. They can earn up to 3 more days off by volunteering in the community.

3 weeks sick leave granted...use or lose it

5 days bereavement
9 holidays with 1/2 day before the holiday
week off between Christmas and New Year's
6 half Fridays off during the summer

They really never give us any grief when we take time off. Most of us don't abuse our time off as it's quite generous.

My company used to have separate sick and vacation. When I moved up to my current position, I decided to combine them and call it PTO. Most employees preferred it this way, and this is why:

1) Having an employee call in sick unexpectedly puts a strain on the other employees for that day(s) having to perform the duties of the sick employee without prior notice.

2) My honest employees wouldn't use all of their sick days, and therefore were sort of punished by having less days off.
