Have a family member in animal control. He said Pit Bulls aren’t shite compared to those little bastards. He said the same thing. If they weighed 50-75 lbs, they’d kill people.

I've been bit by 2 dogs in my life and both were chows.
No vicious attacks just singular bites
frick a chow
I have a Anatolian sheppard who could easily do some damage if he wasn't a big pudding.

They don't, though.
We're dealing with facts, not what-ifs

If they were 50 lbs and killed people we’d be talking about banning them and not the 50 lb dogs that are in weekly mauling videos of children and pets we currently have in reality world

Is this more of an indictment on the breed or the people who own pit bulls and how they raise them?
It seems you have to actively train the aggressive tendencies out of them while you have to actively train a golden retriever to be aggressive. The difference is that no matter how much an owner thinks it’s “always the owner never the breed”, if that pitbull snaps, there’s nothing short of a firearm stopping it. And it does facial reconstruction surgery damage within seconds and doesn’t stop. There’s videos of a pitbull getting legitimately shot and continuing to wag its tail while mauling.

This. Screw the chihuahuas, we’re lucky these guys are not 50lbs plus. They are like mini pits that seem to be fine then all of a sudden take it to defcon 1. Terrier traits are super strong.

A friend of mine used to deliver for the UPS. He was bitten by a poodle several times.

I’d be more concerned meeting a chow on the road than a pit bull. And I wouldn’t enter the gate of a yard with an LGD (Great Pyrenees, etc.) without owner present. And I adore Pyrenees and have a mixed breed of one. I’ve never met a mean “pit.” The issue is with trash tossing dogs together to breed for profit with no known disposition in the lines. It’s a whole underworld out there with these dogs, quite scary how they are breeding and harming them as a whole. And also any blocky headed dog is labeled a pit. I’d be willing to bet the dangerous dogs aren’t true APBTs, but mutts of unknown lineage and mixed. Most people wouldn’t know an APBT if they saw one.

Not taking up for pits but almost everyone I have seen to own one is a hoodrat or trailer trash. That has to skew the numbers a bit.

If you only knew. There’s a local vet who is an amazing vet medical-wise here in town. But he’s the vet that all these ghetto folks bring their compact bully breeds (mini American Bullies, English Bulldogs, Frenchies, etc.) to AI and do c-sections. The waiting room is literally to capacity daily all day with these folks, it’s disgusting. It’s how they make their living bc they aren’t at work! And they drive beaters and stink up the place with the smell of weed. We don’t need more dogs being bred. Now, imagine if these people are doing this, what the underworld is going to breed fighting machines. And then sell to whomever. It’s disgusting. Never would I leave a child alone with a dog. Especially one with prey drive, or “terrier” in the mix. I’ve also seen a sight hound go after a baby learning to crawl. Thought the baby was a rabbit, most likely.

More dangerous than the low-functioning owners?

I in know a Dalmatian that was dangerous because the owner was trashy. But does that make Dalmatians a trashy breed now?
Dalmatians are notoriously mean as frick. This isn’t the point you were trying to make.

What did this breed do to you that caused this thread bump?

I've owned GPs and Anatolian shepherds. We currently have one GP female 3yo who is curled up at my feet as I type this.
All three of our GP's were excellent pets, and the Anatolian was the best dog I have ever owned. They all have loved us fiercely and would not have hesitated for a millisecond to go to war to protect us. I would trust my grandkids around the LGD's more than I would trust them around most people.
LGD's can be pets, but you have owners that understand the breed's idiosyncrasies. They are unlike any other breed we've owned (English Mastiff, Lab, GSD)
I have a hard time believing that GP's are anywhere on this list, they are the most patient breed and never attack unprovoked; however, when they do go off...its FAFO time for the recipient.

I have a part pit part Australian shepherd that wouldn’t hurt a fly and is probably the smartest dog I have ever owned. Maybe it’s the shepherd part be although scary looking he is harmless. He is 2 and never even ever growled at anyone
