Don’t disagree but yahoos with computers can completely trash most vehicles/devices these days if they don’t know what they are doing.

I am fine as long as it is covered by warranty.

After warranty, no limits to repairs or diagnostics.

Go buy an older model and some spare parts. You can keep a vehicle running forever. There’s no need to replace them and certainly no need for every fricking thing to have a god damn computer chip in it.

Seems like someone needs to pirate a version of the diagnostic system

Don’t have choice. In the south, you won’t find any other brand of tractor but JD for 100’s of miles. You’ll find Case in the Midwest and other areas but in the South it’s Green all the way.
Other brands such as Kubota don’t make tractors large enough for Ag production. No harvesters, etc. Kubita is strong in the 25-75 hp market.
Fendt is making strides but will take time. They still don’t have harvesters I believe, but make the best tractor out there.
Somebody needs to at least challenge JD.

The basis of their argument is John Deere doesn’t give machine owners access to the tools to diagnose software issues when they do. It’s called Customer Service Advisor.

I know this video wasn’t just about John Deere but I wanted to express how much I HATE John Deere.

7 weeks I waited for them to diagnose a problem with my lil tractor and fix it. They are scum of the earth and will never buy another product from them!

I’m as pro-capitalism as anyone, but this shite pisses me off to no end. I don’t know how you regulate it and fix it, but these companies having the ability to squeeze so much profit out of the space at the expense of the customer experience is bullshite

Capitalism is supposed to lead to better products and customer experiences, not the opposite

1. It explains the ice cream machine not working in a logical way
2. The only way this gets fixed is lawsuits. This is where class action is needed

This is false.

The better products are the issue. Even the video starts with how much better the new tractors are than the old ones.

He can still drag out an old tractor that can be repaired forever. They just aren't as good.

The real issue is our IP law.

The DMCA needs to be revised. Has needed this since the Napster situation a few years after its adoption. We're in a new era relying on old laws written in a completely different society.

Patent law has gotten insane, too. Private actors have learned how to abuse it and the system rejects andy sort of change.

I actually thought this was covered years ago and addressed. Wasn’t there a case saying essentially people have the right to fix their vehicles a few years back? No idea it was still going on to that level.

And a lot of this tech for cars and farm equipment is for fuel efficiency and environmental stuff.

It's time to make vehicles dumb again.

ETA: yet another reason for OWNING physical media (books, movies, CDs).

Well for one, Deere was the gold standard for a long time and it is not as easy to swap to another brand of equipment as it is to swap to a different brand of cereal or butter. Also Deere tends to have better dealer support in most areas than CaseIH, New Holland, AgCo etc. I will say CaseIH seems to have gotten better and the new Fendt tractors are becoming a player. Lots of guys, me included, own a lot of green tractors but loathe the parent company.

I’m a sales rep for a diesel water pump company, most of our fleet is starting to come with Tier IV engines (DEF) 95% of the issues those pieces of equipment have is directly related to the DEF system.

As SFP says, thanks Obama.

frick this subscription based world we are currently living in. I hate it. I see it with my own company, we no longer sell equipment to our customers, we lease everything.
