Yes, you can lose the machine tooling/manufacturing ability to return to massive unique case built engineering projects. Yes, it can be easily re-established, but at such a prohibitive cost that no one cares to undertake it and try to justify it for a handful of uses again. You can't exactly repurpose it, to make a commercial product after the science/military application phase is complete.
I was born in 1960 and grew up with it. I was locked in as a kid. Fascinating stuff. It led to me eventually becoming an electrical engineer.
I has several college professors who worked on the Apollo program.
In my opinion, there was little return on investment by repetitively going to the moon. There was little of commercial value that we could do with it with the technology that we had at the time.
Someday, we will have the technology to exploit the moon's resources for commercial value. I don't know if that will happen in my lifetime, but the day will come.

But we had slide rulers and wise black women janitors working at NASA that figured out moon trajectories and shite on napkins.
Oh and 75 bytes of ram to write the code to blast off, separate modules, fly directly to moon, separate again, land on the moon, take off from the moon, reconnect to orbiter, fly a straight line back to Earth and land in the ocean.
That's hella efficient code.
Why are you moon deniers so willing to believe this didn't happen?

I’m wondering how they would have convinced the crews to go along with it knowing if it was faked and got leaked, the humiliation to them and their families would follow them forever. I personally don’t think they would have anything to do with the proposed charade.

More like 32 KB of ROM and 2 KB of RAM.
By today's standards, it was nothing more than a digital control panel. It could read sensors, sound alarms when sensor readings were out of whack, and trigger events to occur either automatically or on-demand.
The majority of the real-time computations were performed by IBM System/360 mainframes in Houston and relayed to the spacecraft via radio.
