Wait, earlier you told me that we shouldn't rely on the Government to tell us what is safe and what isn't.

you must want a warning label on every single food item outside of locally grown vegetables.

Even that, outside of local farmers markets, can't be sold in stores unless the person growing it has passed a safety and health check and can source with paperwork the farm it came from so technically it has a warning label too.

Potassium bromate's primary use is in flour and bread. I guess if I don't like it, I can build my own wheat mill

People have been harping on corn syrup for decades, I don't believe the public is unaware of the issue.

The most democratic principle in the world is the dollar vote. Let people decide what comes to market.

but the Mexican Coke sold in Mexico has not since 2013. They used the same thing they use in the US now, high fructose corn syrup, until this year. It appears that now they use sucralose (Splenda), starting this year, in Mexico to cut down on the sugar level in the drink.

I don't drink soft drinks often so I had no idea they switched. I know in the 90s they weren't using corn syrup. BTW, Splenda is very bad for the healthy bacteria in your gut.

quote:

The study found that in mice, the artificial sweetener Splenda negatively impacts the intestinal microbiota. And promotes Crohn's-type disease in genetically susceptible hosts. The findings of this study suggest that consuming Splenda may be a serious risk factor for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

People don't understand levels of toxicity.

If people knew how many carcinogens are allowed in your drinking water, they would be horrified. Just because something like benzene is found in your water, doesn't necessarily mean it is harmful to consume.

Most of the studies for these harmful additives are done at extremely high dosage rates.

And as an adult, you are free to choose not to buy that ketchup. Or we can just let marxists mandate what is and isn't good for us, with no oversight and based solely on feels.

Spoken like a true politard. No shite I can buy other ketchup, and I do. Is it really a Marxist idea to think that we, as a people, deserve better. It’s almost like “big food” and “big pharma” are in the same bed continually keeping people sick and thinking they need them as a crutch.

I have complete faith that the fda, usda, tyson, and nestle have my best interest at heart. They must know something about the various compounds that Europe, India, and China have banned in their countries

That's great, Roger.

Go read food labels and get back to me about how unavoidable most of this stuff is. The premium food that doesn't contain it is not affordable for a lot of consumers or as easily accessible as some of you are portraying.

Do you really think the government has your betterment in mind?

They dont. Most legislation is written by lobby or other special interest.

Correct and they have lobbied to lower our food standards to that below some 3rd world countries.

Thanks for agreeing with everything we have said ITT finally.

Should be forced to put a clear warning label. Our food sourcing is absolutely terrible and there's many reasons people are severely obese beyond simply not exercising and overeating.

Not at all, it’s ran by lobbyists and special interest groups. In my original response, I did say I was not in support of the bill, but also made the point that there is a lot of crap additives in the American diet. Nothing more nothing less.

Gabriel’s legislation specifically targets five substances: propylparaben, red dye 3, brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate and titanium dioxide. The latter three have already been banned in the European Union.

Good and don't stop there. Third world countries have tougher standards on food additives than the US.

Well, banning skittles does absolutely nothing to help that.

It just props up competitors.

The article also clearly pointed out it would affect other foods such as bread, soups, etc

Do they really need to dye tomato soup to make it redder?

How much is it also because the corn lobby that advocates for subsidies for ethanol was pushing for corn syrup as a sugar replacement before ethanol came along?

Time for sugarcane farmers to unite and push for return to pure natural sugar from sugarcane.
