I got banned by the food babe on her facebook page several years ago, because she went on this rant about "cancer causing additives in beer". There is a specific additive you can put in beer that removes chill haze from that beer and clarifies it. It comes from fish bladders. Well, in high enough proportions, yes this additive may cause cancer. However, the brewing industry does not come close to using that amount. But, that dumb bitch was all in. And despite several people, and brewers telling her she's being a hypochondriac, she decided to ban everyone that tried to educate her.

That's what this thread feels like. There are safe levels and unsafe levels. By law, these candy companies can't put unsafe levels of these additives in here. California, the home of open and free drugs, and banning plastic straws, wants to "protect you" from this harmful candy.

Do you really think California has your best interests in mind?

Well to be fair, in Europe, ketchup is mayonnaise. So I’d expect the labels to be pretty different.

This thread shows how populism has taken hold (In Louisiana, its epic) and people trust government, cannot read labels or understand what's on labels, and don't take responsibility for their own health.

Never said I did. I don’t eat junk food because I’m intelligent and understand basic nutrition and it’s effects on long-term health. That being said, I’m not comfortable with major corporations poisoning the people who don’t understand those things. If not banning at least stern warnings like cigarettes got.

Something like this maybe…

Warning: long term use or consumption of this product may lead to heart disease, type II diabetes, obesity, and cancer

The most harmful substance of skittles, is the sugar. Not the 5 additives in there. There are safe amounts allowed, and the FDA has standards for what they are. Notice how there isn't anything in this bill about the amounts used, just outright ban of those substances.

If you want to ban skittles because of this, or slap a warning label on it, fine. But if so, then clearly you must want a warning label on every single food item outside of locally grown vegetables.

Drug manufacturing capital of the world, that is 100% in bed with it's local and federal government, uses "real sugar" in their coke because they care about public health?

I've always thought that a lot of the bans on additives, GMO, etc., that Europeans institute are just sneaky ways to restrict USA products being sold there. That way they avoid retaliation for protectionist tariffs.

Don't think she's relevant anymore, but she had a website a few years ago, and all she did was make posts, videos, and write articles about harmful substances in our food. 99% of the shite she posted got smacked down by experts.

She even had a few books she was trying to sell because of it.

How long has corn sugar been the primary sweetener for soft drinks? When I was diagnosed with a corn allergy at age 5 (in 1967) the doctor told my mom no soft drinks unless they expressly were stated on the label sweetened with cane sugar. Coke was acceptable until sometime around 1979 when they switched. I had outgrown my corn allergy by then.

Also, Mexican coke sold in the US still uses cane sugar but the Mexican Coke sold in Mexico has not since 2013. They used the same thing they use in the US now, high fructose corn syrup, until this year. It appears that now they use sucralose (Splenda), starting this year, in Mexico to cut down on the sugar level in the drink.

If you quoted my entire comment, you’d see that I claimed even fresh foods are being pumped with bullshite that may have a deleterious effect on health.
