So my 65 year old mother, who recently retired due to health and getting onto SS, went shopping at Super1Foods today for my family.

While in the checkout line some other woman scolded her saying, "You have a basket full of shite and I'm paying for it!"

My mom was using a food card for my sister, who has been mentally disabled since birth and will never ever be able to support herself.. or shop for herself.. whatever..

My mom obviously shocked by the woman simply remained silent. When she got home she was in tears. My mom is extremely sensitive, especially after losing her father this year and the uncertainties of having to care for my sister without being able to work.. My mom did not deserve that. People should not lash out on others without even knowing their situation.

I know many share these types of feelings around here, but maybe think twice before you just publicly humiliate someone like that. Don't be upset at someone who qualifies for assistance like this without even knowing their background or what they are going through. My mom has paid her taxes her entire life FWIW. It could always be someone shopping for someone else who can't shop for themselves.

I imagine there are far worse government *actual wasteful* spending that people should consider getting more pissed about before this issue. I believe food money might even have possible benefits to the economy. And I believe it's also a very low percentage of the spending.. At one point it was only 2-4%. I no longer keep up with all the data and won't go deep into it, but last I heard food stamp users were on the decline. If these people are that upset about it, they should take it up with the political world. Definitely don't scream and curse at an older woman taking care of her family. I also read something in passing about Trump wanting to replace food stamps with some sort of food box. Not sue how I feel about it, but I welcome the discussion. I hate to see people go off in public like this though. Take it the politicians or further educate yourself on the matter before speaking so harshly.

I just needed to get that slight rant off. This was my dear diary of the day. Sorry for any grammatical errors. Thanks.

Someone should have told that bitch to speak with vote rather than humiliate in someone in public.

People that do that unprovoked are just projecting their own misery onto others.

Trash gonna trash. I am sorry your mother had to experience that. It makes me angry just to put myself in your shoes as the son of someone that happened to.

In my experience someone that would say that is not in the upper tax brackets and likely not paying for much.

Abhor reading stories like this. I guess you can take pride your mother has the class it takes to not respond to a low class POS. She's the winner.

What a piece of crap. I really can't stand some people.

Not quite the same situation, but I saw some crap the other day that really pissed me off.

Was driving down the road behind some ole baw in a jacked up ford (no truck nuts though). Walking down the side of the road was a young guy in a Wendy's uniform. Somebody from the truck throws a McDonalds bag out of the truck at the guy. The look on his face as he was walking made me cringe, and really pissed me off.

Why people do stupid shite like this, unprovoked, infuriates me.

So your mom was using your sisters food stamp card for your family? As in food stamp fraud? It doesn't matter how old she is, she should not use that card to buy food for your family but only for her and your sister. I would not say anything to anyone because you never know what that person is dealing with but to act like food stamps are not abused is ignorant and absurd. Plus, the argument that they may help the economy is pathetic. It doesnt matter what the percentages are, if you don't absolutely need it than you don't get it.

P.S. It sounds as if your sister needs assistance and that is fine by me. It is just your story sounds like yout mom was using the money on others like you and thats not cool..

Mentions of food stamps remind me of when the system went on the fritz and EBT cards had no limits at stores in Springhill and Mansfield. Word spread fast.

quote:

Shoppers in Mansfield and Springhill, Louisiana, cleared shelves as they filled shopping carts to overflowing, CBS affiliate KSLA reported. Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd said they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing the shelves. The Walmart Supercenter Mansfield shelves were cleared in two hours.

“It was worse than anything we had ever seen in this town,” Lynd said. “There was no food left on any of the shelves, and no meat left. The grocery part of Walmart was totally decimated.”

Every day I see more and more disrespect and classlessness. There’s a level of hate and indifference in our world that I’ve seen like no other. I’m not saying there wasn’t hate in the past, but people kept their thoughts and actions to themselves. I’ll leave it at that so it won’t have to go to the poli board as these are just ponderings from an old fool.

I’m hoping it was just kids throwing the trash and not grown arse adults. Not that it makes it any less aggregious, it just makes it more understandable.

She should have told the lady thank you, put the card away, and walked out of the grocery store.

People who feel strongly enough to engage in this kind of classless confrontation won't think twice, they seek out the toxic thoughts that make them angry enough to be rude to random strangers, and there is no shortage of people selling toxicity and vitriol.

There are but politicians have spent decades and probably trillions of dollars in advertising to divide us and make us focus on stupid stuff that doesn't really matter so we don't notice how badly they're mismanaging the stuff that does matter.

I didn't get that from the OP, and moreover that's not even what this is about.

Beau, I'm so sorry that happened to your mom on top of everything else your family has going on.

Everyone is tough until they need assistance from the government. No one knows the struggles of these families, but they like to act high and mighty around those less fortunate.

I hope your mom is doing better.

Probably so and what does that have to do with anything? Blanket statements are so obnoxious. You trying to say no Hillary voters are POSs?
