I will never ever again self move after doing it my whole life even with the military paying for it, it was dumb. They would have paid a moving company.
I pack my own boxes. I have it down to an art I have done it so much. Never pack valuables. Carry them with you even if you need a small rental pull. Never ever go with a fly by night company w/o a known name.
I had Mario & Luigi move me once and it was a nightmare. They only traveled on Sundays because they didn't have to weigh in. They had 6 families homes on their semi.
Label each box as you pack room by room. The boxes they will gladly give you from ABC liquor store are ideal to pack a kitchen. You will look for kitchen and toilet paper first. Then bedroom bedding.
The only time anything was ever missing was an overseas pack. Things get stolen on barges/huge ships. Your sofa cushions so they can sit & play dominos underway.

They use thugs who can’t find a job anywhere else. They ruined our furniture and took a two hour lunch and then charged us for the time. Mind you we bought their fricking lunch for them.

Whatever you do, do not hire abba movers outof nola. Their sales guy who gave the quote was awesome. The professional/non-contract guys who packed and moved our stuff were horrible.
I have used two men and a truck out of BR for several moves and they were ok. Not wonderful but nowhere near as awful as abba.

I've had movers twice. First time we let them do all the packing and moving (not 2 guys, some company my employer hired). When we unpacked, we realized just how much they didn't give a shite about our stuff. Luckily only a few things were broken, but It was crazy what was stacked on top of each other (garage tools on top of baby items, etc.).
Second time, we started packing boxes on our own as soon as we signed a contract. Spread it out over a month so it wasn't a nightmare. Still paid 2 guys and a truck to physically move the stuff though.

Really the key is is to not own a bunch of dumb stuff. Makes it a lot easier.

Next time I move I’ll pay more not to use 2men/truck. They scratched everything they touched.

Any suggestions on where to find a bunch of moving boxes on the cheap besides grocery stores? The prices to buy new boxes are stupid.

Easier yet, have an estate sell, sell everything down to your underwear, and buy all new shite when you get where you're going.
this ^^^^^
in most cases you end up buying all new stuff any way as the wife decides they dont match the new house for some real or made up excuse

The cost of the movers was miniscule compared to the cost of the shite stolen from us in our last move.
We had movers, plumbers, painters and electricians in...so no way to prove it. But I am pretty damn sure it was the movers.
Our fault for not securing valuables. I get it, but the hell my wife raised after losing some of her late mothers jewelry was historic.
no one with a brain leaves money, jewelry, guns, or anything of real value, there for random strangers you hire to pack up and move for you

Baw unless you’re moving to NOLA or Austin, be careful asking two guys to give you the full package. You may end up with something else entirely.

I don't know how good they are, but you can go into the bigger UHAUL places and they have guys that will work moving for you for the day. So if you are just moving around town, you can use them to lift and load and unload.
As said, you are generally better off packing yourself and paying someone else to move you. They won't give a shite about packing well otherwise.

Two men and a truck are complete shite
We signed a e contract to move our home and the day came they never showed up we called no response. Whe called friends and neighbors got the house moved spoke to them on Monday and they said they had a client that paid more so they made the decision to fulfill the other customer.
They refunded the money. She went level 10 karen on yelp and any review list she could find. My wife was called by a "lawyer" to ask to stop the bad reviews. She continued and nothing materialized. In her defense she was 8 months pregnant and pissy to begin with.

If you mean 2 Men and a Truck, we had a terrible experience with them (broken and missing items). For the next move we hired a local independent guy (Christian Movers). Older guy showed up in a truck with a young guy that he was carefully training. Best experience we've had with a mover.
I also second the tip on getting rid of as much stuff as possible before the move. We had a garage sale and donated two truckloads of stuff to a charity that picked up.

The one in BR was absolutely terrible. The people they sent to my house were sketchy, smelly, annoying and did shitty work....Way too expensive for that kinda treatment. The person who owns the BR branch should feel guilty and ashamed of his business.

Peak woman to go on a tirade about something that’s 1000% her fault.

I used 2 Men and a truck about 10 months ago to move from Metairie to Old Jefferson. Mostly happy with the service. Guys were prompt packed everything day before next day was moving day. They will not move any weaponry, ammunition, plants, valuables or pets or food items, that's all on you, which is fine with me. Guys are pretty hard workers biggest f- up on their part was they packed a whole bunch of hardback books into one wardrobe box which made it super heavy and it disintegrated on the landing between the first and the second floor of new place. They looked at me and asked what to do. I was like hey you packed it like that you're just going to have to carry them upstairs to the office/spare room. Which they did.
I did a lot of downsizing of shite before I moved so they would be less stuff to pack and move. Basically moving from a two bedroom one and a half bath/ townhouse to a two bedroom 1&1/2 bath condo.
Only thing that got lost during the move was a Cox Cable mini box remote which I replaced off of eBay for like 19 bucks.
At 53 years old and having owned a pickup truck for most of my youth, I moved way more people than I ever want to and I said screw it I'm too old for this I'm paying someone else to do it. I want to say it was around 2500 but that included boxes packing material etc and the actual move.
