The government only states those numbers so that poor people feel like they aren’t missing out when they can’t run the AC after their power gets cut off.

I've been to many, many government buildings, and none of those things are set to 78 degrees.

The official federal government recommendation for keeping your house cool in the summer is to keep your air conditioning set at 78 degrees.

When you're at work or away, the program recommends setting it at 85 degrees.

When you're sleeping, the government suggests you set the thermostat at 82 degrees.

We usually just leave ours at 71 all the time. I might turn it up to 75 when we go out of town.

75 during day; 71-72 at night — sometimes 70.
Wife would kill me if set any higher.
