I hope I'm dead and gone before these Energy Star ( ) idiots start "recommending" that the environmental overlords at the EPA ban manually-adjustable thermostats altogether and replace them with pre-programmed thermostats that regulate your house between 78 and 82 degrees only, whether you like it or not.

I’m a Democrat and all I can say is frick that. Who the hell is going to be able to sleep in an 82 degree house? I’ll be killing the environment faster if I have to wash all the sheets each day because everyone was sweating like a goddamn pig every night.

Do people really do this? Even if I left on a vacation of several weeks, I wouldn't want my house to get to 85 degrees. I value my personal property, and just about anything mechanical is going to deteriorate if left in hot, humid conditions.

Even if you care about the "environment" more than my stuff, this 85 degree crap doesn't really work. When something breaks, I'm going to throw it away and replace it. That just results in more pollution and fossil fuel use.

It’s the new normal and we are all working from home. I’m never away for work now

65 at night, 70 during the day for my household. This is a subject people should discuss before marriage, imo.

No its not. All that mechanical stuff has sat in hot shipping containers and warehouses before you buy it. We shut our AC off for 3 weeks when we travel each summer with no ill effects on TVs, stereos, refridge, etc.

10a-10p is 74 degrees
10p-10a is 76 degrees
If I feel hot I run ceiling fan.I would like it cooler but my wife is cold natured at night so I have a fan blowing on my side of bed.
Personally I would rather not have house too cool because it is a shock to walk out of the house on a hot day- seems the greater the temperature differential the harder it is to adjust to the heat.

Better yet are those clowns practicing what they preach? As usual probably not. I highly doubt the offices in which they work in are anywhere near 80 degrees

This is from an HVAC technician, so it's biased, but it does reflect my thought process:

"Another common time that people consider turning of their air conditioners is when they leave for vacation. As it turns out, this will only amplify the problems that we described above. When indoor temperatures are high for a prolonged period of time, your refrigerator can break down, electronics can overheat and floors and furniture can begin to crack and warp. Also, because your home’s air will not be running through your filtration system, you’ll have poor indoor air quality when you get back home."

Our floors would be wet when we got home if we turned the ac off and went out of town for a week during the summer.

I’d not be sleeping if it’s 82°F in my bedroom.
