Define "workable wage"'
Businesses will not tolerate being robbed by local politicians. Nor will they tolerate an illiterate workforce.
Just another attempted robbery by our elected thieves.
Wake up.

Not a terrible idea to ask for higher wages since the state and local governments essentially pull their pants down to bare their cheeks in the form of corporate tax exemptions. This would at least make sure the community being pillaged gets a workable wage.
Wow that's an idiotic spin. So what happens to the community when businesses tell the city to pound sand and zero jobs are created? How does that help anyone?

Doesn't sound like New Orleans has many participants going into this. Nobody is going to build a big petro chemical plant in Orleans parish.

$18 an hour.
They also must be located in neighborhoods that are struggling economically

yeah this is just a symbolic gesture i reckon
it won't create many (any?) jobs in those areas with this salary, but damnit they feel good in enacting the ordinance

Wow. definitely keep us updated on the emergency meeting to overturn that one. Ha. Geez. Paying people in the most economically challenged areas 18/hr is just stupid. The city council needs to be called out for how bad the school system is, and if it's worth that much.
They did find away to not be asked for abatements though, which is good to stop being bitched about it and not do their jobs.

Not dissimilar to the idiots in EBR slaughtering their Golden Goose. This is all caused by Governor Honor Code using a stroke of his pen to undo ITEP when he took office bc he DGAF about attracting high paying industry here, he’s more interested in companies that hire unskilled/uneducated employees that are the core of his voter base.

What are the cities that have enacted similar restrictions?
Posted on 12/28/18 at 10:34 am to prplhze2000
Appears to only be EBR and Orleans that are so short-sighted. All the other parishes with a significant industry presence are granting the full exemption that The Turtle is allowing with the swiftness. Those two metro areas have something in common. The person at the top is a single digit IQ racist that believes they are playing Robin Hood.

Whatever happened to the huge space under roof, Sidney J Barth's poster child, the McFrugal's warehouse?

I’m trying to figure out why people are outraged. If businesses want this tax break they must build in certain areas and pay a certain wage. It’s not a mandate. Companies don’t have to do any of these things. If they want this particular break, they have to reach these targets.
Are people mad that these tax breaks are tied to building in depressed areas and paying a certain amount in wages?

Companies will choose a location that is more economically feasible.
How do you think cities convince companies to relocate/locate there?
quote:No.

It removes all incentives that the business may have to build there.
Why would a business choose to relocate to NOLA now that this was passed?
Good feelings?

Okay, so they won’t locate to those areas and they don’t get the tax break. Why is everyone up in arms over this?

They create tax breaks to entice companies to locate in places they otherwise wouldn’t consider...
