~15-20 years from now home buyers are going to have to factor in how much it will cost to rip out that ugly arse dated and weathered to shite outdoor kitchen bullshite that has been so popular the last 5-10 years.

I never really thought about that, but you're probably right.

When we were shopping new construction was horrible. We ended up buying a house made in 1958, it is solid but the bathrooms are tiny. We are probably going to redo them since they have the original tile still, the cabinets and sinks had been updated at some point. Next house we will go new, but it will be custom. I don't know how soon I am going to be ready to jump back into a house note though.

I bought something similar. 1940s bungalow that the previous owner who's dad was a contractor gutted to the studs and rebuilt.

We have big, mature oak trees, nice sized yards etc. I'm kind of a DIY'er on most small/medium home projects too so I don't mind fixing things up a bit around the house.

My wife absolutely hates the new houses with the garages right in front so I let her pick this one.

We live in a 1975 house that my wife preferred over most of the new construction in our price range. I'll say this, it's far better built than just about anything that's not built custom today.

I own a 1978 contemporary. Love it. My house is bad arse.

Ditto. Wife refuses to even entertain the idea of buying new construction unless it's a custom build that we can monitor closely during the build.

And I agree with her.

It’s like Jeff Dunham describing their clothes he wore in the 70s...

“Did I go into the store and ask ‘Can I get some pants that do even match themselves?’l

homes built in the 1970s are fricking wild.

I just remember a lot of mustard yellow, olive green, and brown carpet, countertops and appliances.

My grandmother’s late 60s constructed home came with thick orange and green shag carpet in the living room.

I think that shite was dated before they even finished construction.

If a lot of the ceilings weren't 8' people would still desire them. Those low ceilings in some of the bedrooms are a hard sell.

Love a 50's-70's modern/contemporary

before that it was a dairy farm

not only are the trees mature but the dirt is good. I can grow anything anywhere. There is something to be said for that, as opposed to digging up red clay and gravel everywhere

We live about 20 miles south of the fixer upper folks and have a house built in the 40s that they added on to in the 70s and then added more on in the 90s.

We’ve been updating it for 10 years and done quite a bit of construction.

It’s a really cool house but when we get underneath it or into the walls we can tell that the people doing it were high or stupid.
We have 6 levels to my house

Case in point.

Here was my front porch last fall

Notice 3 different colors on the foundation. A porch painted green. Grey concrete. Flower bed painted grey that doesn’t match the concrete. And a bright red door. To boot, they just stop the greed paint mid concrete.

Quarantine project has been updating it.

WTF

Living rooms seemed to be built below the rest of the house, popcorn ceilings, carpet everywhere, wood panel walls, fricked up paint schemes, etc.

This is my house to a T. I have 6 different levels in my house. Granted, 1 of those is my upstairs mother in law apartment above my garage but I have a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and a living room on one level, a den one level lower, my bedroom one level lower off that den, then off the same den, the step down to my laundry room, and then a step down from that to my garage.

Popcorn ceiling everywhere but that’s the next project.

Have you ever heard the Beatles song Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds? That’s basically the 60’s and 70’s summed up. Decorate on that shite
