Wtf is red dirt country

My friend played some wack arse country and he said its "red dirt". What's that even mean?

I would think REK is “Texas country” and Hubbard is more “alt-country/americana”.
Too many words for “good country” vs “bad country”. I honestly just group them into these categories, be it Todd Snider, Willie, JJW, REK, etc, vs modern radio country.
