Yep, Dad's old family part of the state, Bastrop, Mangum. Their cotton farm was red dirt (so was the literal dirt floor shack the family of 11 lived in till he came back from Army Corp of Engineers and built his parents a new house, same house my widowed Aunt of his eldest brother now lives in).
That's fricking hardcore.

You have yellow clay in Arkansas, created by Arkies killing thousands of Chinese years ago.

Nothing wrong with sitting out in the Guadalupe with my arse in the river, lone star light in my hand, and some red dirt tunes on the speakers

From literal dirt floor shack to 3 doors down from the Pres/CEO and more money than he could spend before he died.

North Miss, particularly, Winston County was known as red dirt country for us growing up when visiting our grandparents..and visible to the naked eye

It’s basically Texas Country which is its own genre.
To clarify, most of the music on red dirt radio is Texas country music. Most, but not all. Some of the songs they play on there are nothing like Texas country.

Mainly Texas and Okie bands like Turnpike Troubadours. They play in Bossier City Friday night.
Wikipedia entry for it says “Red Dirt is a music genre that gets its name from the color of soil found in Oklahoma. Stillwater, Oklahoma is considered to be the center of red dirt music.”
