Is Texas part of the South for this conversation? If not, I already have. My wife and I both love Colorado so that is the only place I would leave the DFW area for.

I love Cali---love to go home to visit, but don't think I can live there again.

Even during my yearly visits, my heart is still out west. This is where I was meant to be.
That's how I feel. When I was back in the South last summer, I had terrifying dreams I couldn't get back home.
Had some good times in the South, but it's not home.

Yes. I could see myself moving to Colorado in the next 2-3 years.

You are correct but they will not be prepared in the proper Louisiana way.
They farm crawfish there. Buy them and cook yourself.

Have been out west for a total of 15 years now. It took some time to grow on me but I've come to really enjoy it. It's nothing against NOLA or Louisiana. I still love going back there as often as possible and it'll always be "home" in many senses. That said, I love being by the mountains, having lots of wide open spaces and Vegas is nicely located for many things that you can go to quickly. Also, after more than 4 decades in NOLA, there IS something to be said for this whole "living above sea level" thing.

That's because your only experience outside of the south is in Detroit
I actually lived in West Bloomfield, which is in Oakland County, one of the richest counties in the country at the time (26th in 2000 61 in 2010). It was pretty, and not bad, but nothing beats the friendliness of the people in the south.

We packed up and headed out west to Colorado. We don't plan on ever moving back. People are great, scenery is great, lots of outdoor activities. Weather is nice...but, different strokes for different folks.

My cousin lives outside Seattle. If I moved anywhere it would be there.

think moving away from home makes you grow as a person.

That's the main thing I miss about LV. I practically lived in Mt. Charleston and Valley of Fire. Hitting one or two new national parks a year was a must.

I'm probably never coming back to Louisiana, but I appreciate Louisiana more the longer I'm gone and will always consider it home.

I'm in Boston right now...I don't do this weather very well

No question. I almost wish I had moved west or northwest before starting my career. I think Nashville is great, but I've lived here basically all my life.

Pretty good way to put it

If it is, it shouldn't be.
Texas ain't the South.

After college moved around the country to Oklahoma, Iowa, Colorado and Kansas. Some of the places I liked some I didn't. Once we had kids I knew I didn't way to raise them in Louisiana so we moved to northern Idaho. There is no way I could go back to Louisiana. I love the food and miss my relatives but the quality of life is so much better here. plus I don't like hot weather and I always hated it, even as a kid. Plus the trees, mountains and lakes destroy just about anything.

I hear ya. Was out at Red Rock for a little while yesterday. If all goes well, I'm making it out to the Grand Canyon North Rim this summer. All in all, Zion is still the one to beat.

Northern Idaho is my lower 48 oasis
