Had some good times in the South, but it's not home.

West Coasters seem to be be the only people as passionate about the land they live on as Southerners. I think that's why there is so much friction between the two.

I'll take four seasons and snow anytime over oppresive heat and humidity. I hope to never have to move back to the south

Eh, maybe it's been too long since I've been home, but waking up with a couple feet of snow on the ground blows (and I have a garage).

I don't have to deal with snow or live in the South.

Summers can be brutal....but just means you wear less clothes and have AC. At least it's not humid. Can drive 2 hours and escape to 30 degree cooler temps when you want as well.

Most people at least think about it because they know where they live, the weather, the people they're surrounded by, and the general lifestyle are all shitty. Very few actually step outside their comfort zone and move to one of those places they think about. The ones that do rarely come back

I wish more Texans thought so. We can't seem to get them out of Colorado.

Furthest north was Atlanta. After 7 years, I moved back to Louisiana.

I don't like being cold.

I moved to north east pa in 1995 to take care of my grandparents and finish college. I ended up moving back to baton rouge in 2001, only for a job. I would move back in a heartbeat if the wife gave the okay. Pa is very country outside of philly, pits, and harrisburg

Moved to NE Ohio over 20 years for a great opportunity that has treated me well. I still call S. LA home and in retirement, soon I hope, spend Jan-May back home. Summers/fall up here are great. But don't let anyone fool you. Dec/April suck, usually, this year the easiest in 20+. Gray skies, cold as frick, everything's always wet, cars always look like shite. But, summers, no bugs, grass grows at a normal rate, no sweating just walking outside.

The 3 F's is what I miss the most. Family, food, fishing.

We are about to be leaving the South for the first time, I've lived in Texas most of my life, but also Louisiana and Mississippi. In about 3 weeks we move to Kansas City due to a promotion my wife received. I wouldn't say it is in the South, but aesthetically it is pretty close...at least they got good BBQ.

Despite common perceptions, I have found that most people all over the country like their guns.

There are some exceptions but even in very liberal places people aren't lining up to give up their guns.

I was born in Baton Rouge and grew up in Atlanta. I left the South 19 years ago after my college graduation. It's a lovely place to visit but I'll never move back. I'll always be a Southerner at heart, but I belong here in the Pacific Northwest. I can't explain it and I don't expect y'all to understand

I've never even been to the Pacific Northwest and I want to move there.

The south is superior in every way except for hooliganism...of which the north east/new England have plenty of.

Lower cost of living, better recreation, more attractive women, longer warm season, I could go on...

This.

Which is also why I laugh at Yankees that fall over themselves to call everyone from the south a racist. (BTW, the OP here is a classic race baiter on the PT, but that's another story).

You don't see many people from the South, especially whites, fleeing the south for the lilly white areas of the North. They may flee neighborhoods, but they still live here and pay taxes despite the lack of solid returns.

Now, we are also starting to see an influx of folks from the West coast to places like Texas, and folks from the NE to places in the SE.

In my job, I am responsible for getting a lot of people here. It amazes me every year how many people above the MD line that want to be here, despite what they know about the economy, etc.

My parents are the only reason I'm still here. No way I could move my son away from them
