Did it 10 years ago. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Life outside the South suits me much better personally. I will never live in the South again.

I lived in Iowa for 4 years and really enjoyed it.

That being said, I know Louisiana and the South is a damn far ways from being perfect, but it'll always be home for me. I need the Gulf close.

Already done it. Living in Boston will never come back to the south.

Don't worry I'm doing y'all a favor. But the south is a shithole. The people who never leave can't see the forest through the trees.

Edit: Louisiana will always be home. It's nice to come back for a couple days and see friends and family. And I truly want the state to fix the myriad of problems it has and become better. But I'm a realist and know it won't happen.

Seattle? Who the hell would want to live in that shitshow of a city? Fast food people getting $15 an hour is dumb. Btw, I've always lived in Louisiana and I'm fine if I'm here the rest of my life. I can visit places if I get the urge

It's honestly people like you that make me want to leave the South. Thanks for making this thread easy.

Edit: not from a political standpoint at all. Simply a great example of the mass close-mindedness that is so prevalent

Would you ever permanently move from the South? by Mullet Flap

no...I have lived outside of the south a couple of times for work and found myself missing the whole culture a lot...

It will take a heck of a lot of money for me to move outside of the south again...and even then, it will only be temporary.

Absolutely.

Grew up in south Louisiana and never spent much time outside of that.

Then moved to California for 3 1/2 years before. Moving back.

Will leave again in a heartbeat if the right opportunity presents itself.

Never really understood how backwards and clannish the place I grew up in was until I lived in and traveled to other places.

Other than mild winters the south really has very little to offer.

Yep. Boston feels more like where I belong than anywhere else I've lived in my adult life. No regrets moving here 10 months ago.

Born in the South (Alabama).

Prefer to live in Texas.

This is the flip side of the ignorant folks that say, "frick them Yankees, the South is where it's at!"

I've lived outside of the South half of my life, and it definitely isn't my favorite region of this country. But all it is a shithole? Really?

Austin, Nashville, Charleston... All of the cool places in North Carolina... All shite?

I'm not even going to mention Virginia, because people will argue it's not part of the South.

Did the same 6 years ago and will never go back. Thought I would try it for 2-3 years and go back home. Too much great stuff up here.

I doubt I'd ever seen a reason to move...

-I'll take 95 degree summers any day before snow storms
-I'll take southern food over northern/west coast
-I'll take Gulf Coast fishing before any other in the country
-I'll take low cost of living in the South
-I'll take the southern women over northern...west coast would put up a strong fight on that one
-I like my guns

Moving to California in a couple of months. Gonna miss Louisiana (especially the seafood? ) but excited for what the future holds.

You do know California is a coastal state and will have just as good maybe better seafood.

Unless you are referring to crawfish which is not really seafood then your out of luck.

Permanently? Probably not. I can find a place I'd enjoy in any region.

If I did leave Louisiana, staying in the south wouldn't be a priority. I'd just rather stay near my friends and family.

I don't mind hot weather, its just the heat that makes you sweat buckets like we have down here that I dislike vs. the dry heat. I'm weird in that I like the snow but I'd have to move somewhere where everyone could play in it (skiing and snowboarding in the rockies). Every time i've been to Colorado in the winter the cold never bothered me because it was a dry cold. 20 degrees felt like 40 in the South

Southern food is good..but there comes a point where it gets old. Fishing I agree with you on, but I'd say Hawaii is definitely tops when it comes to fishing. Although that may be an unfair comparison

Cant disagree with you on the low cost of living. West coast women are something special, definitely could fight for the top spot with southern women
