re: Madison, WI Food recommendations?

Lots of good recs in here. For visitors, just eat somewhere around the capital and walk down State St. to the union.

Best restaurant in Madison is Harvey House, IMO.

My wife and I have been well over $1M gross for a few years now. Honestly, we don't live much different than when we made <$200k, and we now just save a ton. We are starting a family so expenses will go up a little but we'll still have more money than we know what to do with. Good problem to have but I probably need to spend more time financial planning.
Will he be the GOAT?

I still have no idea if he's still starting in 3 years or the best QB in the league, but when you're watching him now there are moments where he looks incredible.

Not sure why Denver didn't try for a discount. How many other teams would offer him a max when his current contract ends?
The answer to this is not straightforward.

For me, Louisiana didn't/doesn't have a residency anywhere near the caliber of training I was looking for (I would say this would be the case for most advanced sub-specialty training), nor does it have the proper patient population/hospital infrastructure to support my current practice. So I will never be a Louisiana resident again and just continue visit my family a couple times a year -- I'll always consider Louisiana home despite me now living out of state nearly as long as I grew up in Louisiana.

Training wise, local education is just as good as any other place IMHO (comparing with friends and colleagues who have trained outside of the gulf coast as well).

I would strongly disagree with this for many specialties. Louisiana has no hospital comparable to the top places on the annual US News ranking.

Enjoy! See this recent thread for more suggestions: LINK
Most things are pretty delicious when you eat them soon after they are caught. I like cobia a lot but it's been awhile since I've had it. Fresh salmon in Alaska would also be very high on my list.

It's interesting how many mention flounder in this thread, but in Alaska it's pretty low on the totem pole. Has anyone had flounder in both Alaska and the South?

I’ve traveled there for work and actually low key like Milwaukee in the non winter months.

Milwaukee is great, very underrated place. Winters have been really mild lately, especially right on Lake Michigan.
If you want to venture out of downtown (most of these are pretty close to downtown), I'd recommend:

*Kopps (3 locations, closest to downtown would be about 15-20 min drive north in Glendale)
Lakefront Brewery
Uncle Wolfie's Breakfast Tavern
Glorioso's Italian Market
Avli
*Three Brothers
La Reve

*would be unique places without a comparison in Louisiana
Harbor House
Carnevor
Bavette
Zarletti
Onesto
Dan Dan

Milwaukee Public Market and 3rd Street Market have a number of vendors
Hard to imagine Bob Meyers would ever consider the Pels. Gail's pockets aren't on the same level as Lacob's. Meyers is unlikely to be interested in a job he'd have to try ducking the tax each year.
Multiple specialties (orthopedics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery) do carpal tunnel decompressions. It is a pretty bread and butter procedure, difference in the "best" and everyone else will be minimal.
He's barely an NFL player - late round draft pick that was inactive most of the season for a bad team. Whether he gets reprimanded by the NFL or not, good chance his NFL is done anyway.

Rookie mistake.

Just wait for the snow to clear and do it all at once. Makes no sense to shovel multiple times

That's what I told me wife!

She is the Northerner so she bullies me about snow, which is ironic because today was the first time she's ever touched a snow shovel!

Southerner up North with snow

Posted by Parallax on 1/9/24 at 7:41 pm
I've lived up North for awhile but finally am in a home I am responsible for snow removal.

For the snow dwellers, what is the strategy for snow on huge powder days? We are nearing a foot so far. I used the snow blower this morning and my wife & I have cleared it with a shovel 5 times throughout the day. My wife just made me shovel so it doesn't build up too much for tomorrow AM (which I didn't want to do ).

Is the better strategy to wait until it's enough to use the snow blower and not bother with the shorter interval shoveling?

Will hang up and listen!

Powell just talked, entire market spiking.
Brett Kollmann on YouTube thought Penning didn't have the feet for tackle and would end up a guard in his pre-draft scouts, and I think that's largely been proven correct so far.

What is odd is that I saw Penning's run blocking has been the weak point this year despite him being well suited to be a mauler, so I wonder if he hasn't really caught on to the mental part yet.

The only exception is Greek / Lebanese food. I've yet to find a city in the US with better food like this.

I find this hard to believe. Louisiana has relatively small populations of Greek and Lebanese people, and for some reason Louisiana lumps the two cuisines together despite them being distinct (and I haven't seen anywhere else lump them together).

I'm married to a Greek woman from Chicago (which has one of the largest Greek populations in the US) and Chicago Greek food is better than anywhere I've had in Louisiana.

And I've had a long term girlfriend from Lebanon (I love Mediterranean women ), and the best Lebanese I've had is in Michigan.
