Our daughter and her friends, all from moderately affluent families, make the rounds at goodwill and several consignment shops on the regular. Its like a game for them. They will have a CAR load of shite when they get home and they have a big time doing it. They also buy one another outfits and have to wear them at least once to school - sometimes parents have to step in because they're teen girls and schools tend to frown upon a hooker showing up for 11th grade home room but generally speaking they have a big time doing it. They also go to the mall regularly but seldom buy anything....and usually because, there words, not mine, that "Goodwill has the same outfit for $3"! A lot of times they stuff they buy still has tags on it, never been worn.
When we lived on or near military bases and it wasn't a pain in the arse to get on and off them we bought a LOT of stuff at the base thrift store. Again, most of it still had tags on it and most of it came from the PX or the BX and the exchanges sell the kind of stuff you will find in shopping malls and not Walmart etc. Not extreme high end clothing but certainly higher end than we would buy normally. I have bought brand new Columbia PFG Shirts at those thrift stores for $1. Not used, brand new, tags still on them. $5 was normal - for a shirt with a $50 tag on it from the exchange. We have a thrift store on the base near us and we have access but we don't go on base very often. If you have access though those thrift stores on base have some bargains.
I don't think most thrift and second hand stores sell underwear LOL...someone said they wouldn't wear used drawers but I don't think they sell them or bathing suits....consigment shops may sell expensive womens bathing suits, I wouldn't know. Most if not all of them sell shoes though and you can also get some deals on shoes.....and many of them will be new and never worn.
We have some friends we have known since our early 20s and they had a bunch of babies in their early 20s so they didn't have a lot of money. The wife bought almost ALL of their baby and childrens clothes at yard sales. Those were the best dressed kids in the neighborhood. I asked her about it one day and she said her and some other friends would get together on Thursdays or Fridays and map out yard and garage sales in high end neighborhoods around Atlanta and would each go to a different area, buy anything that any of their kids could use, settle up on Saturday afternoon....and about 4 times a year sell all that shite and anything none of them could use at a yard sale of their own. Brilliant! Gave them something to do, saved them some money....just brilliant.

My wife bought me a full length cashmere trench coat (Cole Haan) at an estate sale. It’s heirloom quality.
The same sale produced 2 Italian suits and 2 pair of Italian leather shoes (I think they were Ferragamo) which all fit my son who had just graduated high school . 1 year at LSU including 1 semester in the DKE house and none of it was ever seen again.

I've found some used jackets / blazers on ebay that looked good, but I can't pull the trigger when I think about how much I sweat in those things in Houston most of the year.

Outer clothing yes.
Something wrong against the skin, nah.

Buying clothes at estate sales kind of separates the true bargain hunter from those that will draw the line somewhere

Jackets sure.
Underwear or tee shirts, I’m good.

Most new clothes is polyester, even most designer brands.
Buying used you can get better quality clothes - cotton, wool, etc. They don't make things the way they used to!!

Costco is pretty dang cheap for clothes. Not sure why I would buy anywhere else
I've been buying so many clothes from there recently. Cheap to begin with, but they all rotate going on sale too. I'm pretty much completely replacing my business casual workwear from there. I won't buy anything that doesn't have 4 way stretch now. There's no going back to non-stretch for me.

When I was, I'd buy clothes from thrift stores if I found something good. I've found a lot of good stuff. I don't really care if a shirt or shorts/pants were worn by someone else, that is what the washing machine is for.
Nowadays I just don't have it in me to sift through clothes at a thrift store. Too much work.

quote:True. Where else you gonna find a vintage Pink Floyd t-shirt!
Vintage clothing stores are still around for a reason.
Pro Tip - hit vintage and thrift stores in resort cities like Park City or Vail for the win.

I get most of my clothes from Costco, Walmart and thrift stores. Not shoes though.

I buy used clothes all the time. Find some great deals on some of these clothing apps.

I bought a used car once that had stains on the driver's seat where blood had pooled up and soaked in. It was a good deal and I used it as a daily commuter for years. 41 mpg on the highway, Toyota Echo. Bought from an Iranian trailer lot on 78 for 3500.

Is this a serious question? I rarely buy anything that isn't used. Cars, clothes, etc.

Bad thing is he’s lost weight so he went from a 3x to an XL and I guess I’m taking his old stuff to Style Encore.
sell them on vinted. My wife and I sold a ton of baby clothes on there and made a few hundred with minimal effort. Get shipping bag, take pictures, post, print shipping lable, take to post office.

Probably 95% of our first born's clothes came from Once Upon a Child. You're a fool if you buy all new children's clothes. If they're "nice" clothes, they're going to outgrow them quick. If they're play clothes, they'll get destroyed.
We would go to the one in Metairie where all the bougie bitches dump their clothes off. You can find some really nice clothes for like pennies on the dollar.

I get most of my dress clothes / suits used from my cousin. I told him he should quit that funeral home job and sell clothes full time!
