Would you be ok with your property taxes increasing

If it meant cleanup of some of the general shittiness of Louisiana? Primarily the infrastructure, schools, and the litter.
I lived in Austin last year, where property taxes are insane, but the city is also amazingly clean and well kept. Buildings are brand new, road construction everywhere, and you don't see a piece of trash anywhere. Louisiana has some of the lowest property tax in the United States.
I know Louisiana has a longstanding history of political corruption and lack of appropriating funds accordingly, but hypothetically speaking; i'd be ok with mine going up if there was a guarantee to clean up some of the nasty shite about Louisiana. I'm not advocating for it, but interested in how it would be received by our population

Problem is raised property taxes to clean up the area will not actually go towards cleaning up the area.

No. We pay enough in taxes. Adding more money to a shitty government wont magically make it better. They have enough money and it's time they did their jobs properly.

I'm aware, that's why I threw that last little paragraph in the OP. Purely hypothetical because Louisiana residents don't hold their politicians accountable

I would be happy is they spent the money they already get appropriately, then they would not need Any more money

Texas offsets their high property tax with no income tax. We still pay income tax plus one of the highest sales tax rates in the country.

Louisiana has an income tax and a much higher sale than Texas. It's not that we don't pay the money but let's face it, people here have no issue voting for a crook then you have people just being outright trashy like you see with litter.

It's not about the property taxes.
Property taxes are "insane" in Texas because that is the primary source of revenue.
LA has income taxes, sales taxes, in addition to property taxes.
Although I suppose property taxes does give government pressure to spent on infrastructure (more value=more income), at the end of the day it all comes down to using the resources you are given efficiently and properly.
And LA sucks at both. Property taxes won't change that.

Then what's the problem? If we generate enough revenue through our various tax streams, how are the infrastructure and schools so so so terrible?
I'm sure only half of the state actually contributing revenue versus sucking the government teet can't help much.

I'm all for it if it's first used to eliminate the existing government.

I live in an area with great public schools; taxes are 3 Gs per year.

They don't generate enough revenue to accomplish what they want. But what they want is unreasonable.
They don't allocate.
Errrrrrrbody gotta have the best! Except they end up all being mediocre.
It's the same principle/thought process as to why LA has so damn many 4 year universities.
Cleaning up the inefficiencies in just that alone would clear up massive space in the budget for ongoing infrastructure work. Or it would, if the Good Ole Boy Network wouldn't use the projects as a means to pad the pockets of allies.
Just give it up and move to Texas. At least you are close enough to home to make visiting easy.

No, I got an additional prop tax bill of $1500 I wasn't expecting because I listed my address as the location of my llc , so they just hit me with two prop tax bills, one the escow pays and one I pay. BS.

The burden will be felt by homeowners while the majority of the people that make this state trashy do not own homes.
So, no.
So, no.

That's a big IF. I wouldn't mind paying a few hundred dollars more each year, but it's not going to fix our problems, so I would never vote for it.
I don't plan on spending the rest of my life in LA. Once upon a time I did, but now I'm just waiting to make a profit on my house.
There is too much opportunity elsewhere. Why live here and pay income taxes, property taxes, high sales taxes, and private school when I could go elsewhere and possibly knock out 2 of those?

I vote for every single ballot measure that will increase property taxes. Price out the riffraff.
Posted on 12/3/16 at 3:12 pm to TDcline
You guys know each city can raise taxes specifically for schools, right? High property taxes in the city will keep the trash out.
Posted on 12/3/16 at 3:14 pm to TDcline
Our city parish government mismanages the money we currently pay, so we should give more to fix it?
No new taxes.
No new laws.

Um.
You are getting a little more sucked into the politics of tax collection than you should, and aren't thinking it through.
Income taxes are loaded with subsidies, credits, and deductions that allow a large fraction of people to get away with not paying a cent. Indeed, many of them net a PROFIT come "tax" season.
Property taxes are universally applied.
Or do you not think that landowners don't price property tax costs in their rent? It's one of the things that pushed me into owning: the fact that I was paying property taxes but couldn't use it as a deduction in my returns.
