re: Would you be ok with your property taxes increasing

It is my understanding that a huge percent of the state's annual budget is spoken for, before the legislature ever begins to decide how to allocate the rest. What I'm saying is that upwards of 60% of the state's budget is 'untouchable' because it is dedicated to prior obligations in the form of state pensions (retired state employees who's income is guaranteed for life by law). We're talking about teachers, school administrators, health care workers, local and state bureaucrats of every form.

That leaves discretionary funds left over to fund our colleges, hospitals, infrastructure, and everything else. That's why it's a crisis every budget season, where we're deciding what hospitals to close, and what university programs must be cut, when the oil & gas industry is not booming.

Live in northwest houston and pay about 5k a year in property taxes ...

Have lived in Texas for almost 20 years. There's an element of truth to what you say, except, if you live in Texas, once you hit the Louisiana border, you immediately see and feel the difference. Bad roads, crumbling bridges, trash everywhere. Sure, you miss the social side, but not the bad schools, not the bad government /corruption, not the trashy people.

I go back to attend festivals, visit friends and family, see games, eat seafood and hunt on my family's lease, plus keep a lake house. So I don't disagree that Louisiana has its charms, but it has a ton of problems that are too blatant to ignore.

My Orleans property taxes are 12k a year and that place is a shite hole. They don't exactly use the funds effectively.

Louisiana pays

state income tax
state sales tax
local sales tax
property tax

add all this up and it is more than most states.

screw people who think we need to pay more taxes.

I would rather wait for a Federal Grant to Louisiana. Congress could call it the: "Louisiana, Pull Up Your Pants and Get Your arse In Gear Act."

Brah it makes me sick to go look at the map and see what some houses are assessed at compared to mine. I'm paying almost double what houses that are twice the size and twice the money mine is. It's ridiculous.

Can you protest the value there? Bring those in as comps
