Americans (women and soy-boys) created the term "alcoholic" when they invented MADD to go after white men. In Europe, it's perfectly normal to drink and smoke every day, and there's no stigma around it. Here you have storm troopers ripping you out of your car on your way home from happy hour and forcefully taking your blood for having two beers. This is what happens when you let women vote: Prohibition was the first thing they enacted!

Would a six-pack every night be considered an alcoholic?
How is this not the most obvious ‘yes’ ever?

He’s not recommending his buddy switch to 5 cokes a day.
He’s recommending he not drink 42 beers a week.

People say they need alcohol to fall asleep but alcohol is one of the worst things for sleep performance/quality.

Depends... from a diagnostic standpoint, there are two alcohol related disorders: alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence both indicate a progressive pattern of deterioration both social and health.

He definitely lived a better life than you. Nothing good happens after 60 anyway.

A 6 pack of light beer a day, no more or less, would likely not kill you early unless you have other bad health habits.
An alcoholic doesn't stop at a number by choice, so unless he's passing out drunk after 6 beers, I'd say that number alone doesn't make him one.
Myriad and subjective variables are out there to change it, and honestly nobody knows what the hell alcoholic actually means.

Beer has very little ABV- an entire six pack is like a bottle wine in terms of abv
Or less. I can handle 6 beers pretty easily. An entire bottle of wine is a very tipsy night.

The amount of non-alcohol in beer is way better for your liver than those three shots though.
Why is that? I always thought it was just the amount of alcohol (by volume) you consume.

Moderate drinking is 2/day for men - so 14 in a week.
OP’s friend is downing 42 per week. Definitely too much alcohol.

How big a baw is he? A 6 pack for someone 6’ 9” and 300# isn’t much.

It would be rare for someone to both
1) drink six beers a day
2) have no negative consequences from this habit.
Assuming 6x light beers, you’re looking at about 600 calories in beer alone per day. That’s 6 miles of running/walking before you’re breaking even. And that’s about 1/4-1/3 of what a healthy diet should contain, and it’s very empty, non-nutritious calories.
Will they develop cirrhosis, get a DUI, or have problems with their home life because of it? Probably not.
But will there be negative impacts on their health and weight because of it? Almost certainly.
Some recent studies suggest any regular consumption has negative effects associated with it. I find the risk of bias somewhat high. 2 or less a day, I’ll never call it a problem. 3-4, most folks would be better by cutting it back a little bit probably aren’t doing significant harm. 5+? Problems on the horizon are nearly assured. What the horizon is can be years or decades.
*each number represents a standardized drink, which is 10oz of beer. If you’re drinking 6x12, you’re actually having 7 drinks per day. And if the 6-pack is tall boys, seek help.

Lol. Smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and destroys your body, and it is 100% fact.
Alcoholics are often dysfunctional people that breed and raise other dysfunctional people. Nothing wrong with it in moderation, but if you’re drinking above moderate amounts daily at middle age, it is fricking up your body and making everything in it work harder.
That said, a beer or two a day isn’t going to do much. And nobody would say that is alcoholic. And two domestic beers isn’t likely to get you a DUI.
