There is a pretty good scene in A Bronx Tale about this very subject.

I see it as OP has a kind heart and the young gun is making hard choices in a tough situation.

Yall need to be more positive. Or less negative as the pessimists would say.

Agree with other posters. You did a nice thing but it’s not worth creating an issue over. Lesson learned going fort

so being nice I fronted him à 20 dollar bill and told him to make the dip and don't worry about paying me back... well he shows up Thursday afternoon with no dip or nothing and I confront him about it and he says he needed to put gas in his car and im like your serious dude but let it go for the time being... well we had our pot luck and he proceeded to pig out on everyone else's food like nothing even happened!!!

Pay attention to someone and it usually won’t be long before you learn a lot about someone’s true character.

I did read.

You said you didn’t expect it back, but your actions of running to a message board to ask if you should take the L indicate that you did, in fact, expect to have it paid back.

Calling the Sam's club food court a cafeteria is a bit of a stretch, but I'll allow it.

Maybe someone can start a GFM for that $20.

Let it go.

Your $20 spared you from consuming any food prepared by this homeboy.

That’s a “W,” bro.

I didn’t say the guy did go on about it. But in addressing the other poster who I replied to, if the guy did go on about it, it would say something.

Jesus…not complicated.

And pressing the guy who clearly doesn’t give a shite about taking $20 off a coworker about accountability is flipping laughable.

Rephrasing the words of Daniel Tosh…no one who goes their entire life being a piece of shite is going to turn it all around because some guy they work with presses them on how they spent a $20 gift.

You really just went on and on...

As someone else said, it’s about accountability. The moron should have said it was for his kid or something that couldn’t be traced from work. It’s a bad look to say he wanted to make something for a work pot luck and then not follow through. I’d be pissed too.

There are people I won’t gift money to. This guy would be one of them. Nobody is entitled to anyone else’s money. It’s easy enough to say, “I don’t have extra right now.”

I agree. No, I don’t really want $20 from anybody, but I do take exception when someone says $X is a trivial amount of money. That’s when I say hook me up. They of course say no. All of sudden it isn’t trivial.
